Chapter 3

Brad was completely stunned. He couldn't understand why I had suddenly become so different. A trace of hatred flashed across his eyes, but he quickly hid it, putting on a wounded expression with deep sadness written all over his face. "Melody, how many times do I have to explain this to you? Jasmine and I were once engaged, but I have always treated her as a younger sister and looked after her. There has never been anything inappropriate between us. Why do you keep misunderstanding us and insisting that Jasmine and I are together? You're insulting both Jasmine and me." In my previous life, this was exactly how things had happened. Whenever Jasmine framed me and accused me of bullying her, Brad would always step in and force me to apologize. He would take the blame for things I had never done and tell me that as her older sister, I should be more forgiving and let my younger sister have her way. After it happened again and again, I naturally started to suspect something was wrong. I believed there was something going on between him and Jasmine. Whenever I confronted him, he would hide behind the excuse that he only saw Jasmine as a younger sister, then turn around and accuse me of being too sensitive, suspicious, and petty. What made it worse was that he had always treated me with endless care and consideration. Having grown up without enough love, I had fallen completely into his trap. But this time, after seeing who he truly was, I would never tolerate him again. I let out a cold laugh and slapped Brad across the face once more. Smack! This slap was even harder than the last. Brad staggered from the impact and fell onto the floor. He covered his cheek and looked at me with a chilling gaze. Ignoring the fury in his eyes, I stepped forward, raised my foot, and pressed it against his face. A faint smile appeared on my lips. "You trash, this is what an actual insult feels like." As I spoke, I twisted my shoe against his face twice. After pulling away, I wiped the sole of my shoe against his expensive designer suit in disgust. "How filthy!" Brad's face turned bright red from humiliation. The veins on his forehead bulged as he forced himself to stand. His eyes were filled with disbelief and anger. "Melody, are you crazy? Someone as vicious as you doesn't deserve to be the daughter of a wealthy family!" He clearly hadn't expected me to humiliate him without holding anything back. At this point, I had only returned to the Parker family for a week, but he knew exactly how deeply I had fallen for him. To get closer to him and strengthen our relationship, I had been the one to ask for his contact information and send him countless messages showing my concern. He accepted all my affection while refusing to give me any real answer. He kept flirting with other women, yet whenever I was about to give up, he would say something suggestive to keep me chasing after him, taking advantage of my feelings again and again. But he didn't know that this time, I would never fall for him again. I would never let him use our marriage arrangement like he did in my previous life to enter the Wilson family's company and eventually take over the entire Wilson family. I would make sure he lost everything and sank so deep into the mud that he could never crawl out. I looked at him with a mocking smile, every word striking directly at his pride, the pride he protected so desperately despite how fragile it was. "What? Now that you know I don't love you anymore, you start attacking me? Whether I deserve to be a wealthy heiress has nothing to do with your judgment. I treated you well before, and you actually thought you were someone special. A mistress's son truly doesn't belong among people of our status." Brad finally couldn't hold back anymore. He glared at me with fury and threatened, "Melody, since you look down on me so much, I won't attend your recognition banquet!" He turned around and stormed away, only to run straight into my grandmother, who had just arrived. She looked at him in confusion and asked, "What happened?" Unlike my previous life, when I had desperately tried to stop him from leaving, I looked at my grandmother and said loudly, "Grandma, Brad got angry because I don't like him anymore and started insulting me. Someone like him shouldn't be allowed back in here." Brad hadn't even made it to the entrance when he heard my words. His footsteps stopped abruptly, and he turned around in panic, his eyes immediately fixed on my grandmother. "Madam Wilson, that's not what happened! Melody was the one who slapped me first and humiliated me by calling me the son of a mistress!" My grandmother froze for a second. Then her expression turned cold as she looked at Brad. "If Melody insulted you, then you must have given her a reason to. Yet you still have the audacity to twist the truth and accuse her? Someone, come here! From this day forward, Brad is not allowed anywhere within fifty kilometers of the Wilson family estate. He is never to set foot in Wilson's Estate again!" Brad's eyes widened in shock. He never imagined my grandmother would protect me without hesitation. He tried to defend himself, but the butler immediately signaled the bodyguards. They covered Brad's mouth with a cloth, lifted him up, and "escorted" him out. I walked over and wrapped my arms around my grandmother, burying my face against her and gently rubbing against her like a spoiled kitten. "Grandma, thank you. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have let Jasmine and the others manipulate me with just a few words and distance myself from you all. It was my fault." My grandmother had been stern moments ago, but after hearing me, she sighed softly and hugged me back with heartache. "How could this ever be your fault? It's all because of those people who had bad intentions from the beginning." After saying that, my grandmother held my hand and led me to the study. Right in front of me, she pressed a hidden mechanism, and an entire wall slowly opened. The sight of the secret room filled with piles of cash left me speechless. Seeing me standing there in a daze, my grandmother took out a small box and opened it. "These are the gifts Grandma prepared for you. I have been waiting for you to come and take them." I lowered my head and looked at what was inside. There was a thick stack of property documents with gold embossed covers. Every document represented ownership of estates located in prime areas of Meridia and the most valuable districts of Empire City and other major cities around the world. On top of the documents was a formally signed share transfer agreement, transferring all the shares of several multinational companies under my grandmother's name. To my grandmother, assets worth hundreds of billions were nothing more than a simple welcome gift for me. But in my previous life, I had believed the lies spread by the Parker family and Brad. I never visited the Wilson family and even spoke harshly to the Wilson family members who tried to reach out to me. Because of that, I never discovered the depth of my grandmother's love for me. My eyes turned red as I looked at her and called out softly, "Grandma." I was wrong. I had mistaken true love for something worthless and mistaken cruel wolves for the people who truly cared about me. A faint glimmer of tears appeared in my grandmother's eyes. She gently patted my hand to comfort me. "As long as Grandma is here, I will protect you for as long as I can. Even after Grandma is gone, you will still have your uncle and your cousins. Melody, don't be afraid." Tears spilled from my eyes. I nodded firmly. "Yes." In this life, I would never be afraid again. Not only would I make those who hurt me pay a hundred times over, but I would also protect the only people who truly loved me, the Wilson family, and help the Wilson family's influence spread across the world. I stayed at the Wilson family and was treated like a real princess. Every day, my grandmother had servants prepare the meals I loved and arrange countless custom-made outfits for me. My uncle gave me ten percent of the Wilson Group shares and handed me a black card that allowed me to spend freely. Even with his busy schedule, he always made time to return home and have dinner with us. My cousins took me out to meet their closest friends and spend time together. When they learned that my grandmother and uncle had given me shares and more money than I could ever spend, they weren't jealous at all. Instead, they gave me most of their allowance. In just one week, surrounded by their overwhelming and genuine love, my wounded heart slowly healed. Even my appearance and aura had undergone a complete transformation. That day, I was sitting in the living room choosing from a new collection of custom-made gowns when the butler, John, came in to report. "Ms. Melody Parker, Mr. Parker has arrived with Jasmine and Brad. Madam Wilson wants you to decide what to do." On the afternoon Jasmine was burned, the Parker family had immediately sent people to bring me back, but John turned them away. They came two more times afterward and were rejected each time, so they finally stopped. This time, Noah had come personally. It seemed Jasmine had recovered and he had finally found the chance to deal with me. I knew my grandmother wanted Jasmine and the others to become my training ground. I smiled faintly, gave the butler a few instructions, and then asked him to invite Noah into the living room. The tall Noah walked in from outside, followed by the recovered Jasmine and Brad, whose eyes were filled with hatred. When Jasmine saw the luxury items filling the entire living room, her innocent looking eyes immediately filled with intense jealousy. I noticed her reaction and instantly understood why. As far as I knew, the Wilson family had always kept Jasmine at a distance. They had never bought her any luxury items, and they hadn't even given her gifts during holidays or special occasions. Their attitude toward her had always been cold. But now, I had only come to Wilson's Estate once and hadn't done anything at all, yet I was living the life she had desperately wanted but could never have. Naturally, she hated me. I pretended not to notice Jasmine's distorted expression or Brad's resentful gaze and asked innocently, "Noah, what brings you here?" Noah paused. His eyes swept across the living room, confirming there was no one else present. When his gaze returned to me, it was filled with complicated emotions and a hint of disgust. "Apologize!" I lowered my brows slightly, and my expression instantly turned cold. "Why should I apologize?"
