Between Two Mates

Chapter 16

-Rose POV-

His body presses against mine and I suddenly feel this calmness go through all over me. My shoulders relax and I unconsciously lean into him. He puts his nose near my ear and cheek and starts inhaling my scent.

“I've missed you, Rose.” He whispers.

I stay quiet.

“I’ve missed you so much.” He says.

“You...” I finally speak. “...have her.”

“I don’t want her.” He says and his arms wrap around me tighter.

But I also hear a small disapproving growl coming from him.

“You don’t want her but you can’t be away from her.”

“It’s my wolf. He... he wants her but it’s just because she’s...” He stops not wanting to finish the sentence but with a bitter tone, I finish it for him.

“Having your baby.”

He stays quiet but his arms tighten again.

“So, you want me but your wolf wants her. What’s the play here then?” I ask.

“I... I’ll figure something out, Rose. Please don’t give up.”

I close my eyes and allow myself to enjoy his presence. His hands go to my stomach where he starts rubbing and it feels so good. I want to melt. I suddenly start feeling his nose and mouth go up and down my neck. His hot breath tickling my skin.

“I want you, Rose.” He says. “Goddess, I want you so bad.”

“Helix.” Harper's voice comes from outside the kitchen door.

When the door starts to open, Helix quickly lets me go and backs away just in time for her not to see but it really pisses me off.

Harper now stands in front of me with her eyes wide.

“You...” She says and suddenly her expression changes to a snobby one. “I thought you had left the pack seeing as I hadn’t seen you around.”

(Seems she has become a b***h. Or maybe she was always one but I just didn’t see it.)

“No. I haven’t left the pack and I am not going to either.”

“Harper, leave her alone.” Helix says but she ignores him.

“You should leave. There is nothing for you here anymore.” She says.

“Harper! Stop.” Helix says with anger.

“My mate is here, so I’ll never leave.” I respond.

“Your mate? Haha. You mean my mate, the one that spends every waking moment with me.” She mockingly says.

“You need to shut your mouth before I shut it for you.” I growl out, feeling anger rising inside of me.

“Don’t you dare.” Helix growls out. I look back at him and see his wolf is on the surface. He looks at me like he is ready to rip me apart if I even dare lay a finger on Harper.

This breaks my heart.

Harper gives a small chuckle. “See, mine.”

Helix, being controlled by his wolf, stands next to her.

I look into Helix’s wolf's eyes.

Hurt and angry, I abruptly hit him on the chest, pushing him hard. He stumbles back, hitting the door. The door opens and he stumbles into the dining room where now the Alpha and Laura stare at us from where he sits, eating their lunch.

He looks at the three of us but my eyes are only trained on Helix.

My mouth quivers as I shout. “You are so stupid!”

I rush past him, making sure my face is down and no one sees the tears that now stream down my face.

“Wait! Rose!” Helix shouts, apparently now being in control.

I don’t listen and bolt it all the way back to my room where I jump on the bed, grab my pillow, and scream into it.

I am so frustrated, trying to keep the tears away that I don’t notice the door opening behind me.

“Sorry.” Nova says, softly.

“It’s not your fault.” I say.

“I shouldn’t have made you-”

We are both interrupted when my father walks in. He stops when he sees both of us and sighs.

“Rose... you need to pack your things.”

“What? Why?”

“The Alpha... and Luna think it would be best that you moved to the second packhouse, away from Harper.”

“What?!” Both Nova and I shout.

“They are afraid you will hurt her.”

“You mean Laura is the one pulling this little stunt!” Nova shouts with anger.

“The Luna-”

“No! Laura! She is not Luna yet so no one should be calling her that! What a b***h!” Nova stomps out.

Nova is the future Luna of the pack when Dominic takes the Alpha position, so obviously my dad—being Alpha Maximus beta—is not going to talk back to her.

When she leaves, dad looks at me with sadness. “I’m sorry, Rose. I’m sorry that you have to go through this.”

“This is not fair dad.”

“I know it’s not.”

“I have been good. I have always followed the rules and done everything our Alpha had told me to do.”

“I know.”

“Then why?! I have lived in this house since I was born! Why does it have to be me and not her! This is my home!”

“We, are your home.” Mom says, walking in. “And we are not leaving you.” She looks at dad. “Where she goes, the whole family goes.”

Dad nods. “Of course.”

“Geeze, you guys act as if we were going across the country.” Gabriel says, now leaning on the door frame. “We are just moving next door.”

“It’s the principle of it, Gabriel!” Mom says, irritated.

“Okay, okay.”

I love them. My family is the best. But I am so angry at this. So easily does the Alpha turns his back on me. That man has known me since I was born and I have always respected him. Well... not anymore.

I shoot a quick text to Nova, having made up my mind. I am done blindly following the rules. I am done being good.

-Helix POV-

I watch as Rose walks away out of the dining room.

“What happened?” Alpha Maximus asks.

Harper starts yapping and telling them how she was threatened by Rose.

(I hate you!) I say to my wolf.

Of course, he doesn’t respond. That’s not how this works.

I look at Harper. I have no love for this girl. I feel nothing other than my wolf’s emotions of wanting to protect her and be near her. Those emotions are strong and are almost impossible for me to resist but I can’t deny that since I started training, it has slowly gotten easier.

“Carter.” Maximus calls Rose’s dad over.

The Alpha tells him something and though Carter nods, he doesn’t look too happy.

“Have it done by tonight.” The Alpha says.

Carted nods and leaves.

“Do what?” I ask.

With a smile, Laura answers. “Rose will be moved to the second packhouse so she doesn’t interfere with matters.”

“What?”

“She is a danger to Harper.”

“No, she is not. Rose is not like that!” I shout.

Laura rolls her eyes. “Rose might not be but it’s best not to risk it. Her wolf instincts could take control and try to hurt Harper.”

Anger rises inside of me and a growl threatens to come out but Harper quickly holds my arm. “Come on. Let's go for a walk.”

“I don’t want to.” I try to take my arm from her.

“Well, I do.” She says and pulls me with her out of the dining room and into the hall.

With force, I abruptly pull my arm away from her. “Fine. But I’ll go by myself!”

“But-”

“I want to go for a run and since you are in a delicate state, you can’t.”

Pregnant she-wolves can’t shift. Actually, they can but the wolf inside will not shift willingly. The pup would not be able to survive it and so the wolf inside would never risk it.

The doctor also said about a week ago that the pregnancy was not going smoothly. So, she has to stay in and keep from strenuous tasks. Thanks to that, it’s the only way I get some free time for myself.

The girl has been driving me nuts. She keeps trying to seduce me but I see through it. Since we got drunk that time, I haven't slept with her and I don't intend to though she keeps insisting.

I quickly walk out of the house, leaving her behind, and got to the forest. I take my clothes off behind one of the trees and shift.

As I run, the wind calms me down. I run and run until I make it to my spot where I shift and sit on the rock, overlooking the forest.

“You... piece of shit.” I say.

I have been talking to my wolf these past few weeks. More like insulting him. It honestly does nothing but it makes me feel better.

“You have the worst taste in women, you prick!”

Nothing, just the wind hitting the trees can be heard.

“If somehow, I could get you out of me, I would beat your f*****g ass for being a dumbass. Rose is all we need but no, you want to be a little slut and have it all. Well, you can’t. Keep protecting Harper and choosing her over Rose, and we are going to lose Rose.”

I give a few seconds of quiet.

“Is that what you want?... You probably don’t care. It’s all animal instinct to you. As long as you get a mate, someone to f**k, you don’t care. Well, I do care!” I shout. “I love Rose! She is the one I want!”

“Then fight.” Nova suddenly says.

I turn around, startled and embarrassed.

“What the hell are you doing, you creep!”

She laughs. “Creep?”

“Yeah. You have been acting like a stalker these past few weeks.” I say to her.

She rolls her eyes. “Yeah. I’ve been watching you and Harper. The little b***h has it coming.”

I suddenly growl at her but it isn't me, it’s my wolf.

Nova suddenly slaps my nose as if she was slapping a dog nuzzle.

“OW! What the f**k!” I hold my nose.

“Don’t you dare growl at me you stupid puppy! You might be bigger and seem tougher but I assure you, I can take you on and easily put you in your place!”

I am impressed when I feel her Alpha and Luna aura. It makes my wolf cower and gives me back control.

I smile actually feeling proud but being her little brother, I am getting her back for that later. (Maybe I’ll turn her hair orange next time.)

She takes a deep breath. “All I am trying to say is that if she is the one you want, then fight for it. Train harder. Take control of your wolf.” She turns around. “On the other hand, Rose is much more fun when she is pissed.” She shows me her phone and shakes it.

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“She just texted me. We are partying and getting drunk tonight.”

“Rose?” I am surprised.

“Yep.” She stops and looks back with a wicked smile. “I am so going to corrupt her.”
