Chapter Five:

“Thank you, you didn't have to”. I say to him, my voice trembling. I'm barely able to let the words out. I'm not even sure that he heard me, but of course I'm able to get confirmation when Queen Kate interjects.

“Yes, it is true, my Prince, you did not have to”. She says, and Prince Ethan only turns to her for a second before he faces me again.

“Don't thank me, just watch your step next time so I don't have to do that again.” He says to me and I immediately nod my head. Why did he show me that kindness? Why was he being this way? Everybody knew him as the meanest son that resembled his father perfectly. This was very unexpected. Everything for him to do. He did not look happy at all to be doing it. That's all I could say. He was still staring at me with the biggest frown on his face, like he was analyzing something on my face that he really did not approve of. It was rather very frightening. She's just the maid that Ona really likes.

“This is just pathetic. Honestly, I cannot believe my own daughter is embarrassing all of us like this”. Queen Kate starts yet again and I slowly take steps towards King David, the one that had summoned me in the first place. It is very hard for me to get there, seeing as Prince Ethan has not dared to remove his eyes from Even through my preferable vision, I'm able to see that he has not dared to look at anything else apart from me in this room. And was it about me that made him so intrigued by this? Was he trying to see if there was any resemblance between me and my mother?

Was he trying to see if there was any way that I could possibly be of this family? Perhaps that is what was happening. I just wish he could do it more subtly because this was absolutely making me nervous.

“There you are!” Ona grabs me the second I get close enough to her.

“You see how she looks like me and I look like my mother and she also looks like her mother? Our mother?” Ona asks and I just immediately widen my eyes at her. I reach for her thigh, trying to pinch her but she immediately grabs my hand and squeezes it.

“Don't, enough is enough.” She says to me, whispering in my ear and everyone is just watching quietly looking around me. I didn't even realize how many people were in this room, but right now I just felt like an entire crowd. I felt like the whole universe was watching and I was just here just embarrassed by all of this and feeling like this was not going to end well. Was this going to be my doom? I mean I was not expecting everyone to find the secret out like this.

I was content moving away from this family and forgetting about my mother and just keeping one important person in my life which was Ona. But now I was not so sure if that was even a possibility.

“ You see, the one thing about me that you do not know is I not only love my fiction, I also tend to read any book I happen to stumble upon. So I know that the law applies in all 8 kingdoms. This is not allowed. You cannot exclude a Princess from such an event. If a king from a different Kingdom wishes to select the Princess of his choice, all the daughters should be present. But that did not happen now, did it?” Ona directs her question to her parents , and Anna just immediately groans loudly.

“ What is your problem? This girl is not our sister, What are you talking about?” She throws her hair behind her shoulders, taking in a deep breath.

“ You know what, stop being so childish. I see being the youngest in the family has truly spoiled you beyond comprehension. I will go in your place if that is your problem. My Prince, please take my hand. Let's end this scandal right here. My sister will really give up if she sees me going in her place” Anna offers her hand to Prince Ethan. And Prince Ethan only stares at that hand before he looks back at me and I insist yet again.

“My Prince, please”. She says to him again. And I could just see my mother and King Owen watching with so much anticipation and their faces soon turn into shock when he just pushes her hand away without saying a single word. That must have really hurt Anna, in fact, must have really infuriated her. Her entire face had turned red. She looked absolutely infuriated. She had her victory right there her when she was holding it right in her hand and all of a sudden it had to escape her like that. His eyes were adamant on being on me and I was just getting anxious.

There was just one rule that I was telling myself I will follow. I was not going to let our eyes lock at all. I was not going to let him ever make me look at him, even if it was just so hard to resist staring at him when he was looking at me like that.

“So tell me.” King Owen starts and I'm forced to look at him.

“Are you a Princess?” He asked me and I could just see his eyes, they were intimidating. His eyes were threatening me so immediately I shook my head and of course I was expecting that to be the end of it, but I was truly optimistic, way too optimistic for my own good.

“ How do you expect her to tell the truth when you have threatened her her entire life about this ?” Ona question and he immediately gets more furious.

“Go to your room right now.” He responds to Ona and Ona immediately shakes her head at him.

“I will not do that, let us do the DNA test.” She says and the King Owen just shakes his head.

“All right, fine, we will do it. We will do it and end this nightmare,” he says. But King David suddenly objects.

“No, you will not do it, Owen. I will have my people do it. I do not want it rigged. You do know the consequences of doing such a thing, right? King Owen? I believe you do, and I will not have any association with a family like yours. If I am to find out that you kept this secret and broke this law, you will truly pay for it.” He says and I could just see King Owen shaking in his pants, his face turned from straight up rage to fear. It was probably not easy for everyone to see.

What I could see it in his eyes. His eyes were just exuding it and he could possibly not have a way out of this right now. Why was this happening? Why are we really doing this?

“The girl is not even of age. She can't compete. That's right, she's only 17. So this is all pointless,” Queen Kate says, and I'm certainly reminded of that. I'm reminded of how I could have just straight up told everyone that.

“oh, I already thought that you would say that. But that is very easy. Her birthday is in a week, and I'm assuming the DNA test should come out a few days before that. After they do, we will do this all over again. And if Prince Ethan still insists on taking me instead, I will go. I will go. But I just want the truth to be out” Ona insists and I could just see Queen Kate and her husband breathing with so much rage that could not contain it.

“When the DNA test comes out, we would do exactly as she said. We will have the ceremony all over again. But be warned, wasting my time does not come without a price”. He says before rising from his seat.

“ Let's go son”. He says to Prince Ethan, but he's just standing there staring at me before he turns around. Was this really about to happen right now? Why on earth was this happening to me on such a day? I was only a week away from being old enough to find my mate and could have possibly been the end of this nightmare. Possibly I could have been able to move somewhere else because I just gave any wolf a rise to move.

Once you had found your mate and he did not happen to be within the same pack even that you were in and gave you a right to move to be with the person that you are destined to be with. It was no secret that any wolf is weak without their mate, so nobody could be denied that opportunity. I was possibly going to quit this job very soon. I did not care what the financial status of my mate would be, as long as he did not reside in this palace. I was more than happy to leave, but now I was really concerned.

I did not see that happening very easily. The doors closed and finally it feels like I can read. It felt like somebody was holding my heart with their hand, daring to squeeze it. But once the doors shut, I felt a breath of relief. Suddenly there's a hand on my wrist, spinning me around and before I know it, a slap lands on my face.

“That is for condoning the lie that Ona is telling and not denying it even more.” Queen Kate says before storming out of the room as well. I really could not believe it. This day could possibly not get any worse.

“Just ignore her, come with me, Jade. I'll protect you” Ona I says before grabbing my hand and walking me out of the room as well, leading all the way to her room.

“ I really cannot believe this, why did you do that?” I asked her and she immediately just smiled at me.

“Do you not realize this has to end? After the truth comes out and it is revealed that rightfully, you are a Princess, nobody can hurt you. They were only going to be able to to hurt you because they knew that no one with authority could keep them in line for what they have done. But now that I've involved the most powerful Alpha king, there's no way that they're going to hurt you, trust me”. She says to me, holding my cheeks with her warm hands and I just sigh.

I should feel comforted, but I did not. I really could not be angry at Ona, there was absolutely no way it could happen. I had never been angry at her for doing this, just a little bit shocked that she really could do it.

“But Ona, why? Please just withdraw what you said. This could go south.” I said to her and she immediately shakes her head.

“No, you deserve this. Even if I have to go there at the end of the day, at least I know I will leave you behind with the protection that you need. Trust me when I tell you that they cannot harm you once it is revealed that you really are of the royal blood.”

“ But I am not the daughter of the King”, I say to her, and she just rolls her eyes.

“That is very true. But it is also very true that he is not of royal blood. He only married her. She was already a Princess when he found her, and had her father not died, the position would have never been his. So you are of royal blood as long as you are my mother's daughter. You understand that?” She asked me and I just sigh deeply. Now I'm just curious about one thing.

“Why didn't you just go with him? Do you really not want to go with him or you just want to get this done with first? Was it always the plan?” I ask her and she just shrugs her shoulders.

“ I don't really care anymore. I realized that when I was in that room that the reason I was so upset was because I did not want to leave you behind because I knew what they were going to do to you once I was gone so he could take me with him if he really insists even though I don't know what his problem is! What does he insist on being with me? Is there anything that special about me?” Ona asks and I just roll my eyes at her.

“I cannot believe you did that. You rebellious little brat!” I say to her resting my head on her pillow.

“ You better believe I did. Now go lock that door and make sure nobody comes and interrupts us in here”. She says to me and I immediately feel like I should do exactly as she said. I could really imagine the amount of questions that everybody wanted to ask and the amount of excuses there would be to just be in this room.

So I arise from the bed and head for the door, but right as I am trying to twist the key in the lock and lock the door, the door immediately flies towards my face, hitting me slightly. Queen Kate enters the room and to her satisfaction, she slaps me yet again.

“ You brat, you are going to pay for this. You too!” She points her finger at Ona as well and I just feel my heart pounding.

“Pack up as fast as you can. Pack up only the essentials, which should probably not even be a lot or anything at all because you don't even have a lot of clothes. Take all those things because I am moving you out of this palace. You are going back where you should have stayed, back in that ratchet town where you grew up”, she says to me, and I just feel my heart sink into the pit of my stomach.

Was this really about to happen?” This is not how I was expecting things to go. Of all things that I had thought would happen while I was thinking about the possibilities of how this was going to end, how this situation was all going to blow up, I really had not anticipated this. Of course, this would be something that my mother would think of.

“ Who will I stay with there?” I ask her.

“Oh, you are old enough now. I'm pretty sure there are cobwebs all over your grandmother's house, but you will gladly move there. I will give you enough just for you to survive there every single month under one condition, that you never make a return, that you make this plan work perfectly. We're going to stage an escape and everybody's going to fall for it. Do that or by the start of the next day I will have someone kill you without hesitation!” Queen Kate says to me before she storms out of the room, slamming the door shut.
