Harold’s POV
I smiled looking down at the beautiful baby girl in my arms. We were finally going to be able to take a baby home. After years of trying to have our own baby we finally decided to try for adoption. We learned quickly though how hard it is to adopt a newborn baby. Many people want newborns and many times the mother will decide to keep the baby after birth.
I held my darling girl for a few more moments before walking back into the delivery room. I noticed my wife’s sorrow look as soon as opened the door. My heart broke immediately understanding. This little girl’s birth mother decided to keep her. I can understand why. She’s absolutely beautiful.
We’ve been helping Natasha during her pregnancy. She got pregnant while in college, but decided she wanted to give her child up for adoption. “Mr. and Mrs. Taylor,” Natasha started, “I’m so sorry. I don’t want to hurt either of you. You both have been so wonderful to me during this experience, but I can’t give her up. I just can’t.” She started crying.
My wife Evelyn walked over to Natasha’s bedside and held her hand saying, “We understand darling. We would love to take your daughter home with us, but we understand.” I hand the little back over to her biological mother. Natasha looked at us leaving and said, “The only reason I am able to do this is because of you two.”
My wife and I silently walked back to our car before she started crying. “I can’t believe this happened again. I can’t keep doing this Harold. I honestly just can’t. My heart hurts every time we get so close to having a family, but the something happens.”
“I know honey. I’m so sorry.” I say to her.
My phone started ringing. “Harold Taylor,” I answered.
“Hi Mr. Taylor. This is Lisa from the adoption agency. I’m so sorry about what happened with Natasha.” She said.
I looked over at my wife before stating, “Thank you Lisa.”
“Well, I was hoping to talk to you about another possible adoption,” she continued.
“I don’t think that’s good idea. I don’t think we’re ready to discuss this right now,” I interrupted her.
My wife puts a hand on my arm and says, “Let’s just listen to what she has to say honey. Somebody might be needing us.” That’s my wife for you. Trying to help anyone who needs it. I would do anything for this woman, but I honestly don’t know how much more heartbreak either one could take.
“Mr. Taylor?” Lisa questions.
“Go ahead Lisa. Tell me about this possible adoption,” I say while putting the phone on speaker.
“Well this is a very unusual case,” she starts, “But we have a 16 year old girl with twins. So you wouldn’t be adopting a baby, but instead a 16 year old with babies she needs help to care for. She has twins. A boy and a girl.”
“We will adopt her,” my wife says. She looks at me with a small smile. I can’t help but smile back. She’s such a giving women.
“Great! I will call you later with more details. She will be leaving Georgia later this evening.” Says Lisa.
I hung up the phone and turned to my wife to ask, “Are you sure about this honey? We just left the hospital hoping to bring home a baby.”
“I know we’ve only talked about adopting a baby, and I’m sorry about answering such an important question without discussing it with you, but this just feels right. I don’t know how to describe it, but it feels like this was meant to be the entire time. Besides we already have all the baby stuff. We will just want big family right away.”
I grab her hand and gently brushed a kiss on the back of her hand. “This does feel right. I’m glad we decided to just go for it.”
Cassie’s POV
With just a diaper bag, the stroller, and car seats for the babies we headed out to California. The babies and I will be riding in Mr. and Mrs. Crawford’s car with Mrs. Crawford driving while Mr. Crawford drives my car to California. It’s going to take a few days to drive there considering we’re driving with two newborns. Mrs. Crawford informed me the couple who’s going to adopt us believes I’m the twins’ mother. I don’t like the idea of my niece and nephew not know who their parents are, but until we know who attacked our pack I thinks it’s what’s best. Since we’re getting adopted we’re going to be able to change our last name so hopefully whoever attacked our pack won’t be able to find us or even know we’re alive. Everything is going to be so difficult since the couple adopting us is human, but at least we will be safe and together.
“Would you like to stop at a baby store on our way to pick up somethings for the twins?” Mrs. Crawford asks bringing me out of my own thoughts.
“Oh no. That’s ok Mrs. Crawford. You’ve already done so much for us.”
“None sense Cassie. You’ve been through enough. You shouldn’t have to worry about how to care for babies. Let’s stop by a baby a*****e to make sure the babies have everything they need.”
“Ok Mrs. Crawford. That’s extremely nice of you. I have no idea where to begin buying for babies.”
We pulled into a parking lot to a large baby store. I got the twins out of the car and headed into the store. The store was massive with everything you could need for a baby. We decided to stick to the feeding and changing needs of the babies. We headed over to the bottles, pacifiers and formulas. My heart hurt thinking how my brother and sister-in-law had already bought the twins everything the could need. I couldn’t risk going back to the village to grab anything personal. After grabbing everything for feeding we headed over to diapers and wipes. I let Mrs. Crawford pick out a couple of outfits for the twins. I could tell how much she wanted to.
After baby shopping we found a nice little restaurant for dinner before finding a hotel for the night. We still had a whole day to travel.
Evelyn’s POV
I hope everything is ready for Cassie and the babies. I bought extra baby supplies considering we were only expecting one baby and two. We also bought somethings I thought a 16 year old might like. However, it’s been awhile since I was 16, and I don’t know anyone with a 16 year old. Most of my friends have younger kids closer to the age of 10 rather than 16. I’m only 35 years old. I’m really not ready to care for a 16 year old, but as soon as Lisa said someone needed help I honestly couldn’t help saying yes. For some reason this just felt right. I should be more worried considering we’re bringing a young mom in our home, but for some reason I’m not worried at all.
Cassie’s room was a neutral cream color and white trim. I decided to keep things neutral until Cassie gets her to pick out more personal things. We got her a white comforter with gold accent flowers. I also bought her a white desk with gold trim and a white computer chair. Harold was wonderful enough to build Cassie her own bookshelf that I painted white with gold flowers. Harold decided Cassie needed a computer for her school work. I honestly hope she likes it. We had to quickly set everything with such short notice. Luckily the room you to be a guest bedroom so this room was easy enough. Now Cassie can decorate however she wants.
Beside Cassie’s room is the babies’ room. Lisa told me Cassie doesn’t mind us getting ready or decorating the babies’. I’m glad Cassie trusts us, but I honestly think the mother of the child, or children in this case, should be able to decorate the baby’s room however they want. I’m hoping Cassie is just overwhelmed from everything. Since the twins are a boy and a girl I went with the same neutral cream color. For Beckett’s side of the room we got a mahogany crib and chest. We made his side of the room a camping theme. Brynlee’s side of the room has a white crib and white chest. I got her plenty of pink princess decorations.
I step back out in hallway shutting the door to the room that was suppose to be for our baby girl. We were suppose to bring her home two days ago. I understand Natasha’s need to keep and raise her baby girl, but it still doesn’t help the hurt from it. We had already bought so many baby girl things. Now I had to buy baby girl baby and baby boy things, along with teenage girl things. I just hope Cassie except us into her life. She’s already had so much happen to her.
Cassie’s POV
As we pulled into the driveway of a beautiful white two story house with black shutters and a red door, my nervous started to get the best of me. I’m worried about starting over, and now I have to start over as a new mom. I never wanted to be a teenage mom. Hell, I’m still a virgin! I hate having to lie to everybody, but at this point I’m the only parent figure left for my niece and nephew. I guess I need to start to think of them as my son and daughter.
I got out of Mrs. Crawford’s car and looked around at my new home and neighborhood. There was a line of trees down the both sides of the road. Every house had its own lamppost. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor’s house has a white picket fence around it. They had a beautiful big tree in the front perfect for a swing. They live in the suburbs of California.
As soon as we started towards the door a beautiful women walked out the door and towards us. She was wearing a white button up blouse with a cream sweater jacket, a pair of skinny jeans and brown knee high boots. She looked so young with her brown hair cut in a cute bob. A tall man followed out the door behind her wearing jeans with a green button shirt. They definitely didn’t look like parents of a teenager.
“Hi Cassie. I’m Evelyn Taylor, and this is my husband Harold Taylor. We’re so happy to meet you and invite you into our home. Please feel free call us whatever your comfortable with. We completely understand if you don’t want to call us ‘mom’ or ‘dad’”
“Oh! Well thank you Mrs. Taylor.” I say to her. She walks to me giving me a hug. I hug her back. She’s not my mom, and will never replace my mom, but having someone to hug right now feels good. Mr. Taylor steps up to give me hug. His hug is a little more awkward, but it’s still nice.
As Mr. Taylor steps away Beckett starts to cry. Mr. Taylor steps over to the car to grab Beckett. “Hey there little buddy. Let me get out out of there.” I watched Mr. Taylor grab Beckett out of the car seat and settles him with ease. My nervous start to settle as I realize My niece, nephew, and I are going to be safe.
We all head into the house with everything Mr. and Mrs. Crawford bought for the twins. As soon as you walk in the door to the right is Mr. Taylor’s office, and to the right is a formal dinning room. Past the dinning room and office the a large kitchen with a large island in the middle. Everything as a wonderful open concept.
Mrs. Taylor looks at me and says, “Your room and the babies’ nursery are upstairs along with the master bedroom. There’s also a bathroom attached yours and the nursery. The laundry is at the very end of the hallway upstairs. We also have a finished basement for the babies to play in.”
I looked around taking it all in. It’s nothing compared to the pack house I use to live in, but considering after I turned 18 I was going to have to live in a cottage instead of the pack house this is really nice. I settled the twins in their cribs for a nap before heading back down to talk to my new parents.
While getting to know each other I learned Harold is a lawyer and Evelyn is a nurse. They both love to read and go to musicals and theaters. They seem like such a normal loving couple. I just hope my past doesn’t come back to haunt me, or the fact that we’re all werewolves. I have no idea what I’m going to do when I turn 18.
