Epilogue: The Hunger Beneath the World

401 Words
Deep beneath the ancient continent of Arak, below the broken prison and the black canyon called the Mouth of God, a single ember remained. It pulsed once. Then again. Far above, Kael stood at the edge of a battlefield and watched the six bloodlines gather beneath a sky without a moon. The ember pulsed a third time. A voice moved through the roots of the world. You will come home. Kael closed his hand around the sword. He did not hear the voice as a command. He heard it as a promise. And somewhere beyond the mountains, something ancient began to laugh. To Be Continued THE DEMON DEVOURER — BOOK TWO: THE SEVEN BLOODLINES The demon cannot be killed. The kingdoms are falling. With six ancient warriors, he must face the hunger within before it consumes the world forever. Book Two: The Seven Bloodlines A dark-fantasy novella Prologue: The Falling Star The world thought the Demon Devourer had been defeated. The world was wrong. Three nights after the destruction of the Temple of Ash, a black star crossed the heavens. It did not burn. It did not trail fire. It moved without sound, a wound passing through the night. Where it traveled, birds fell from the sky. Rivers stopped flowing. In every village across the continent, demons froze in place and turned their faces toward the ancient city of Veyra. Veyra had disappeared from human maps centuries ago. Its roads had been swallowed by forests, its towers buried beneath shifting dunes, its name removed from the records of every kingdom. But beneath the city, deep below its abandoned streets, a sealed chamber waited in perfect darkness. At its center stood a throne made from black stone. For ten thousand years, the throne had been empty. Then someone opened his eyes. The chamber filled with the sound of chains tightening. A man’s voice echoed from the darkness. “Vorakhan has awakened.” A second voice answered from behind the throne. “Then the Seventh Bloodline must die.” The black star struck the city. Above the ruins, every bell in Veyra began to ring.
