Chapter 006: Death

1031 Words
Seeing that Su Ya had pointed it out, I couldn't keep up the pretense any longer. I nodded reluctantly. "Saw it, saw it. Thankfully, it's not ripped!" Su Ya then lowered her skirt and walked back silently, so angry she didn't even have the energy to bicker with me. Was I being too much of a bully? I cheerfully caught up to her, smiling. "Hey, Su Ya, I was just worried about you. It would be troublesome if it really was ripped. I see you're having trouble carrying those things. Let me help you." Seeing my feigned interest, Su Ya snorted. "In your dreams! Don't think I don't know what you men are like!" "Then put them in my pocket. I promise I won't touch them." I turned sideways, displaying my pocket and raising both hands, looking utterly foolish. Perhaps I felt a little guilty about what I'd done earlier. Sigh, next time I shouldn't make such requests. I really wanted to see Su Ya smile at me. Seeing that Su Ya wasn't smiling, but still glaring at me, I felt quite dejected. Sigh, I really don't know how to charm a girl. Such a good opportunity to be alone, and I couldn't even make her happy. As I stood there with my hands raised, lost in thought, Su Ya slowly walked over, bent down, and extended her fair right hand, about to slip it directly into my pocket. BOOM! A large wave suddenly surged on the sea surface, roaring towards the nearby beach and crashing fiercely against the shore with a tremendous sound. My eardrums vibrated from the loud noise, a faint ringing echoed in my head, and the sand beneath my feet seemed to tremble. My body shuddered, and before I could process what had happened… Su Ya, startled by the crashing wave, shrieked and instinctively crouched down, clutching my legs. Everything before her eyes seemed to sway. "Don't... don't hug me! Let go!" I gulped, utterly speechless. "I'm scared! I'm scared!" Su Ya screamed, clinging tightly. "Oh…" I groaned in a mixture of discomfort and amusement. "You… you pervert!" Su Ya's face flushed crimson, and she quickly let go, stumbling backward. A chance to be a hero! Without thinking, I caught the beautiful woman in front of me, my arms securely around her slender waist. Ah… such a slim, small waist… No wonder the ancients spoke of willow-like waists… I only held her briefly, not daring to do anything inappropriate, and slowly helped her up. Su Ya's face gradually turned scarlet as she pulled away from my embrace, her eyes filled with an unreadable gleam. "Hey, what's that?" I pointed towards the edge of the beach, where an object glimmered faintly in the sand, trying to dispel the awkwardness. I quickly ran over and, after some effort, dug out the can-shaped object from the sand. It was a can of name-brand baby formula, with a baby bottle tied to it! This must have fallen into the sea when the plane crashed, and now the waves had washed it ashore. Such a big wave, and it only brought this useless thing. Where's my suitcase? In my frustration, I almost threw it back into the sea! Still, a can was useful for collecting water or making soup. I sighed, packed the formula away, and looked at the sky. Dusk had fallen. I glanced at the dense forest, which looked particularly intimidating in the dim light. Unarmed and with Su Ya to protect, I decided against venturing further. There was a red glow from the campfire, which usually kept wild animals away. It was best to return and spend the night there. On the way back, the air remained warm. The sand on the beach and the sea breeze radiated the heat absorbed during the day. But from the forest on our left, I felt a chilling gaze fixed on me, making my hair stand on end. I even felt a shiver of cold. My nerves were on edge as I walked cautiously, focusing most of my attention on the forest. Suddenly, Su Ya gripped my right hand tightly, her expression panicked. "Run!" I felt the nervous sweat on Su Ya's small hand. She had seen something and was pulling me to run. As I ran, I glanced back and noticed a shadow at the edge of the forest behind us. The dim light made it difficult to discern its size, but I could see a pair of glowing red eyes staring intently at me. My heart lurched. As expected, there were wild animals in this rainforest! When I saw the red glow in the distance, I knew we were almost back. We hadn't gone far, but the chilling gaze persisted, and I felt it drawing closer. It was as if a block of ice was slowly being pressed against my back. This damned creature was trouble! I wanted to run faster, but I had to match Su Ya's pace. Pulling her too hard might cause her to fall. For a moment, I hesitated, tempted to leave her behind. But then I recalled the moments I had shared with Su Ya today. Although we had argued a lot, I could subtly sense that we were becoming reliant on each other. No, I couldn't abandon her. I couldn't abandon this fragile girl. If I left her, I might survive, but she would surely die! As a man, even though I was a failure in the city, looked down upon by everyone, on this deserted island, I was the only man, Su Ya's pillar of support. I had to protect her until the rescue team arrived. "I… I can't run anymore…" Su Ya gasped, struggling to keep up after running a little over a hundred meters. She was about to collapse. "Here, I'll carry you!" I released Su Ya's hand, stopped abruptly, and turned to look at her, her expression changing from despair to surprise. I guided her shoulder onto my right arm, scooped up her slender legs with my left, and pulled her close to my chest. Feeling her securely in my embrace, I took a deep breath and started to run.
