George twiddled his thumbs and tapped his feet against the woolen floor cover of the police vehicle. He was in the backseat, heaving, glancing at his wristwatch, and muttering incessant prayers. Occasionally he let out swear words when he was certain no one was paying attention. There was a clock on his arrest. It was not an abnormal phenomenon. In fact, all cases had a timestamp but this one, this one was different. If he failed, a criminal would walk away and an innocent man’s name would remain tarnished. An innocent man would go to jail or rather back to jail. George had never considered himself to be good. He had thought himself to be fair but good? Never.
