1. MEETING YOU

2319 Words
Heather Potter the girl who lived. The girl who had a twin brother who knew nothing of her, or the wizarding world, not one thing.     "Heather!" Ron Weasley shouted. I groaned and shoved my pillow over my head. I heard the usual Weasley morning commotion. But, I'm not a Weasley, and no one could keep that a secret for long. I lived with them, but I'm most certainly not one. Not with their ginger hair and my dark brown hair. And no one could hide the lightning bolt scar that lay on my forearm for long, either. I'm the girl who defeated Voldemort(He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named! Don't say his name, Heather!), along with my twin brother, Harry. Except, I've never met Harry.     On the night my parents, James and Lily Potter, died, Hagrid had orders to take each my brother and I to safety. One of us was to go to our Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's house, and they're muggles. The other was to go to a large wizard family, which happened to be the Weasley's. I guess I was just the luckier twin, since, what I've heard from Hagrid, who stops by every so often, Harry gets treated like a dung-bomb. I can't wait to meet Harry, and Hagrid said I could come with him when it's time to tell Harry of the wizarding world. I don't know much about my brother, obviously, so I can't tell if he'll be like me or different. I'm different than the Weasley's who all get put in Gryffindor and are the brightest family there is. I have an aching suspicion I'll be put in Slytherin. And although Slytherin has a reputation of being bad, I'm not sure if it really is, for me, or not.     "Heather, come on! You need to be energized today!" Ron called through my closed bedroom door. I threw the pillow off of me and stood up. I was in my hand-me-down pajamas (the Weasley's aren't the richest family you'll meet) that was basically black sweat pants that tightened at the ankle and a Gryffindor t-shirt that was three sizes too big. I walked over to the door and opened it to see Ron standing there.      "what do you want?" I mumbled, rubbing my tired eyes.     " Uh, it's your birthday today, did you forget?" Ron grinned as my head snapped up and now became fully awake. Not only was to day my birthday but I get to meet Harry! "get dressed we're going out to breakfast." Ron told me, and I nodded, then closed my door to change. I searched through my clothes and eventually found black leggings, a dark green short sleeved shirt, and the silver necklace I wear everyday that has an H on it. Hagrid told me Harry has the same one and he wears it everyday. He just has no idea what it means, unlike me. I brushed my hair out and decided to leave it down since my hair is naturally straight. I was also happy because not only was I meeting my brother, but I was also turning eleven! I hurried out of my room and down the stairs into the living room where all the Weasley's were waiting for me by the fireplace, so we could flood to Diagon Alley.     "Happy Birthday Heather!" two very similar voices yelled, and next thing I know Fred and George Weasley had tackled me in a hug. I wouldn't say this out loud and neither would they but they were my favorite Weasley's and I was their favorite person under this roof. we got along so well and had fun puling pranks on everyone together.     Ginny was next to run over and hug me. of course we're close we were the only girls( besides Mrs. Weasley) in the house. she was a year younger than Ron and I, who were the same age. she was grinning as she held out a small box. I looked to Mrs. Weasley for approval and she nodded so I opened it and inside was a necklace like the one I'm wearing but instead of an H it's a W for Weasley "just something so you won't forget us." Ginny smiled. I hugged and thanked her.     Ron came over to me and we hugged each other tightly. Sure, the twins were my favorite, but Ron and I were the closest, since we were the same age and we just always connected the most. He grinned and gave me a tiny piece of plastic. I looked at it and saw that it was a gift card for the hair salon. I smiled. Everyone in this house knows I have been wanting to get dark green streaks in my dark brown hair. Not necessarily because it's a Slytherin color, but because it is my favorite color. I thanked Ron.     Mr. and Mrs. Weasley didn't have to give me a present, because their present was taking care of me all these years. I would like to think Percy would've given me something, but he and I never gotten along and he was probably locked in his room studying on how to be the perfect perfect. "Heather, where would you like to go for breakfast?" Mrs.Weasley asked me. I thought about it for a minute, and then came up with an answer.     "Sugarplum's Sweet Shop!" I cried, and Ron, Ginny, Fred, and George cheered. We loved that place, it was a candy wonderland. Mrs.Weasley sighed but laughed.     "You kids can go there, and Mr.Weasley and I will go to Rosa Lee Teabag. So you know where to find us." Mrs.Weasley told us, and grabbed a handful of floo powder, stepping into the fireplace. "Didgon Alley!" And with the rise of green flames, she disappeared. Mr.Weasley went next, followed by George, then Fred, then Ginny, then Ron, then lastly me.     I arrived at Diagon Alley and saw the twins, Ron, and Ginny waiting for me, Mr. and Mrs.Weasley had left already. I ran over to them and we all headed to the sweet shop together. We walked into the store, me in front of everyone. I heard the little bell on the door to cue that someone has come in. I saw a flash of white-blonde hair before anyone else and I pulled the Weasley's behind the counter that was next to the door and signaled them to be quiet. They gave me questioning looks but then saw them.     Lucius Malfoy and his son, Draco, were leaving the store. I personally didn't have a problem with the Malfoy's, but everyone knows the Weasley's and them have had a rivalry for years on end. So I only figured this would end bad if they saw us, and I don't want that. We crouched behind the counter and waited for them to completely left the store until we came out of our hiding spot and walked over to the counter.     After buying all the candy and sweets we could, we met back up with Mr. and Mrs.Weasley. "Heather, I think it's time to go get your hair done." Mrs.Weasley smiled, and I grinned. The boys didn't care to much about my hair so Mr.Weasley took them to the Quidditch shop while Mrs.Weasley, Ginny, and I went to go get my hair dyed. We walked into the salon and told the worker at the counter what I wanted and that I had a gift card for it.     "Are you in Slytherin?" the girl dying my hair asked when Ginny and Mrs.Weasley had walked away to sit down and I was settled into a salon chair.     "No, this September will be my first year at Hogwarts." I told the girl who looked like if she finished school five or so years ago. "green is just my favorite color." I told her. She stopped what she was doing and looked at my forearm.     "Heather Potter!" she cried excitedly. "what an honor! I'll talk to the manager after dying your hair and see if we can give you this appointment for free, and you can save your gift card."     "Thank you, but there's no need to, really." I replied hastily. People were always trying to give me things for free, but in reality, I just want to be a normal kid that's going to Hogwarts.     "Nonsense." the girl waved her hand as if to swat away my statement. "I'm Tonks, pleasure to meet you." I shook her hand. Tonks... that name sounds familiar, I thought. Tonks finished dying my hair and a wide smile spread across my face when I saw the finished product. Gleaming green streaks were swept throughout my boring hair. Ginny ran over to me and told me she loved it. I grinned even wider.          it was now later at night, and there was a pounding at the door of the Burrow that made us all jump in surprise. Everyone looked at me and I gulped. it was time to meet my brother. Mrs.Weasley and I walked over to that door and opened it, sure enough there stood Hagrid. "Ready ter meet yer brother, Heather? An what did ya do ter yer hair? Looks nice." He said happily. I smiled shakily, thanked him, and nodded. Was I ready? Probably not.     "Heather wait!" Ron called and hurried over to me, hugging me tightly. I hugged him back. When he pulled away he said, "Stay safe, okay? You only just turned eleven." I grinned and waved, then turned to Mrs.Weasley.     "Thank you for everything today, Mrs.Weasley. I'll see you later!" I hugged her then faced Hagrid. "okay, I'm ready" I told him. I left the Burrow with Hagrid, who led me down to his motorcycle. I hopped in the car that was attached to the flying motorcycle I've ridden in many times before. The ride was silent, Hagrid and I both thinking about different things.     "Ere we are." Hagrid told me, getting out of the vehicle then helping me out. I tilted my head in confusion and quickly pulled the hood of my jacket up over my head.     Wherever we were it was raining and storming heavily. The only thing in my line of vision was a large lake crashing with huge waves. In the center of the lake sat a small rickety cottage that could fly off the slippery rock it was perched on at any second. Was my poor brother in there? "He hasn't gotten his letter yet." Hagrid told me. "yer aunt and uncle made sure of that." I frowned, then pointed to a small rowboat sitting on the land Hagrid had parked the motorcycle on.     "Are we going across the lake in that?" I asked, shivering in the loud and cold wind. My brother is spending his birthday like this. That's horrible. Hagrid nodded grimly and started pushing the rowboat into the water. I hurried over to help him. We both got in the boat and I hugged my knees to my chest to keep warm. All I was wearing was a pair of black jeans, some red sneakers, a Hogwarts shirt, and a big Gryffindor sweatshirt that I'm pretty sure belongs to Percy.     We arrived at the cottage and I quickly hopped out of the rowboat that had gained a little water from the waves slapping in and soaking my legs and feet. Hagrid got out and we walked up to the door. My heart started beating fast and even though I was freezing and the cold wind was hitting my soaked legs, my palms started sweating. I jumped as all of a sudden Hagrid started to beat down the door with a pink umbrella that used to be his wand. I heard rustling inside the cottage. Before Hagrid struck the door with a final blow that would knock it down, he turned to me.     When we go in, you grab Harry and pull him to the side, but do not make eye contact with him yet. Let me deal with the Dursley's." He explained. I nodded, at a loss for words as Hagrid hit the door down and it fell open. I rushed and instantly saw a scrawny boy standing next to a boy our age that was very fat who was standing next to an even fatter man who was standing next to a bony woman. I grabbed the scrawny boy's arm and pulled him to the side, avoiding eye contact. I was holding my long lost brother's arm. This is crazy.     Everything went by in a blur but the gist of it is that Hagrid gave my cousin (Pugley, was it?) a pig's tail and sent the Dursley's home. Hagrid looked at me and nodded, signaling that I could look at Harry. I instantly turned my head and my green eyes met his. They were a slightly brighter green than mine. He had darker hair it was jet black. He had a lightning bolt shaped scar right on his forehead.     Then, all of a sudden, a searing pain swept through my forearm where my scar lay. I cried out in pain and gripped my arm. Harry cried out in pain as well and gripped his head. Hagrid looked at us, worried. It must be some kind of connection. The pain stopped and I removed my hand from my arm, and held it out, so Harry could see my scar. He looked at it with wide eyes and then he pulled his hair back so I could see his scar.     We locked eyes again. And even though he didn't have the slightest clue who I was, where I came from, or what he was, he threw his arms around me. I smiled and hugged him back.     This is my brother. He is my home.
