It had been almost two years since the Luna and Alpha at EastEnd had found me dying. I thought back to how much had changed as I cleaned and prepared the house for the upcoming Alpha Meeting. Kate and Chris had adopted me as their own. This pack was home. We were pretty sure I was 18-ish. My new pack had accepted me so quickly. It had taken me months to get used to the people here, and I was still a little jumpy, but I had made EastEnd my home.
We had found out quickly that keeping the pack-house running must have been part of my old life. I found it very easy and calming to keep the busy building running smoothly and clean. A couple months ago, the last Head of Staff had retired and moved in with her daughter. Kate had asked me to take over with Mrs. Kairns blessing. I had accepted so quickly. The one place my wolf and I felt at home, besides running in the woods, was in the pack-house.
“Cay and Jared, can you make sure that Gamma Joah and Beta Seth know where to stack the firewood? Oh, and tell Joah I will personally end him if he tracks wood chips and mud through my pack-house,” I sent Cay and Jared off. The young boys ran off immediately.
“Aria, love, it will be okay. You will be so safe the whole time. You will be so busy, I’m sure they won’t even see you.” Kate, as usual, picked up on my worrying like it was her own. I was so nervous about possibly running into my old pack at the upcoming Alpha Meeting.
Easy for her to say. Rue scoffed.
Be nice! Internally huffed at my wolf.
“I know you guys will keep me safe. I just don’t want you guys to start an incident over me.” I smiled softly. It was true. EastEnd was pack. I didn’t want any harm to come to them. Not over me.
“You never know, little one. Maybe your mate will be at the meeting. You are 18 now, after all.” Kate tucked my brown hair behind my ear and gave me a gentle pet. Everyone seemed to be petting me cause I was so tiny and just within reach.
“We don’t know that for sure. We just think I’m 18. Besides, Kate, I doubt I am destined to an Alpha. I’m not exactly Luna, Beta, or Gamma material.”
“Bullshit,” Kate said firmly. I laughed and shook my head. My real fear was that my destined mate would reject me. We only had theories about everything that had happened to me and I doubted that they would want a mess like me. I hugged Kate firmly. She held me close and kissed the top of my head.
“I wish you’d wear that dress you liked so much,” Kate started tactfully. I knew what was going on. I shook my head firmly and hugged myself. I almost always wore a turtleneck and jeans. I had healed completely, but scars littered my body. I couldn’t bear it when people stared at them. I especially hated it when they stared at my forced mark.
“Absolutely not.” I said firmly. She sighed dramatically.
“Fine! Hide yourself from the world. It really will be okay, love. Besides, you are going to be very busy behind the scenes keeping the rooms and food moving.” Kate pointed out. I nodded.
“That’s true.”
“Kate, Kate, Kate!” A frantic Carolina, Seth’s mate, burst in.
“What?!” Kate demanded.
“Did you hear???” She gasped, breathing in and out frantically.
“Hear what?” I asked.
“There’s a FEMALE Alpha!!! And she’s coming to the meeting!!” Carolina squealed in excitement. My mouth dropped open.
“A female Alpha? How does that even work?” I wondered.
“Just like anyone else. That’s amazing! I can’t wait to meet her. She must be fierce.” Kate marveled.
“ They say she’s not even 21. She’s the head of the Lunar Pack.” Carolina gushed.
“Oh! That must be Marigold! She’s the only child of the late Alpha and Luna. She must have taken on the Alpha Bond.” Kate shared thoughtfully.
“I cannot wait to meet her!” Carolina gushed. I smiled and listened to Kate and Carolina continue to gush about the new female Alpha.
I used the welcome distraction to pop out of the room and back to my preparations. I had only a few hours before the first of the visiting alphas would arrive.
