25. A purpose beyond

White Pines Pack, California Nadia had turned in for the night an hour ago, yet she couldn’t sleep. The events that had transpired the same day were all flowing around her head. She had gotten close to falling asleep once, but just as she felt herself drift off, she was abruptly woken by bloody images of a young woman who was lying on the ground crying for someone. The image had come out of nowhere and she didn’t recognize the woman, but the scene had felt so real that it had disturbed her to a point where Nadia couldn’t relax again. She forced herself to think of things that made her happy just to get rid of the horrifying nightmare, but the feeling of death and despair lingered in her body.
