Amelia's POV
This wasn't how I had expected to spend my day. Nor what I had thought would happen to me. But all I knew was that I needed to run. Away and as far as I could get.
My wolf seemed to be helping me do that. Perhaps being mates with Johnson and not being marked by him had made her unable to surface. Perhaps that had been the reason I realized my wolf the second he had accepted my rejection.
The wind rushed past me as I ran, my paws barely touching the ground.
“You better stop, Amelia! You are my reject and the woman i cast away. A barren one at that.”
" Do you not know what the contraceptive herbs I secretly gave you have done to you? You won't be able to bear any children ever! Do you think there'll ever be another man out there to accept you? Do you think the moon goddess grants people second chance mates that easily?”
Johnson's voice echoed behind me, refusing to let me have even a moment of peace.
I didn't respond.
Nor slow down.
Because I had shifted into the white wolf, it was impossible for him nor his men to catch up with me because of how fast my wolf was.
So now he had resorted to using cheap tricks to scare me.
“I will grant you the Luna title if that is what you want. Are you still interested in joining the pack's biker team? I will grant you access to it regardless of your status as an omega. Just stop, I'll do all you want me to,” he continued, his voice softer and almost pleading.
" The more you keep running, the harder you make this for us! You better stop now if you do not want me to have you punished when my men get you!” he continued to threaten, his tone shifting back to authority.
My wolf was becoming weak, but I still didn't slow down for a moment.
She was still the one in control of my body, determined to get us to safety.
But then my chest began to burn again.
Exactly how it had been before I had awakened my wolf earlier.
Everything happened so fast.
One moment I was running and he next, my wolf receded mid-air while I had been about to jump the cliff.
I fell down a cliff and tumbled through the steep ground, my body hitting rocks.
When my body eventually stopped as I hit the back of a tree, everything went still.
I quickly braced myself up, ignoring the pain screaming through my body, forcing myself to stand and begin running but I froze.
Because when I looked up, i had been circled by Johnson's men.
“I asked you to stop, Amelia! I gave you a lot of chances to obey my order but you didn't!” he snapped as he began to approach me,like a predator his prey.
“Let me go, Johnson. I have done nothing to you," I managed to say, and this seemed to infuriate him further as he hated that I was still talking despite my condition.
He reached out to slap me but a loud voice suddenly stopped him from moving.
"Do you not know that you are in the free plains of the rogue kingdoms? Once here, no wolf has the power to command another, nor are they allowed to force them to obey their decisions,” the voice said authoritatively.
Johnson darted his gaze around, searching for whoever it was that had spoken.
It was then I noticed.
I had fallen off Moonstone borders and into forbidden territory.
The rogues and Moonstone pack were enemies because of their leaders.
The Rogue Lord was the feared Duncan… Johnson's uncle, who had been banished from Moonstone pack decades ago for murder.
When Johnson noticed where he was, he was equally startled, a flicker of unease passing through his eyes.
We were the ones trespassing.
I thought he would turn and leave.
But to my shock, he didn't.
Instead, Johnson straightened, pretending not to show any atom of fear, masking it with arrogance like he always did.
I prayed for the rogue who had seen us to be anyone but Johnson's uncle.
But when he finally stepped forward from the shadows, my breath hitched.
It was him.
Duncan.
"My mate fell down the cliff by mistake, we'll be leaving soon,” Johnson said to him before turning toward me, trying to command me with just his gaze to follow him.
"The young lady does not want to follow you. Under the laws of the free plains, you cannot force her to,” Duncan said as he advanced closer towards us.
Johnson got agitated when I wasn't answering and forcefully began to approach me to drag me out of the free plains.
But before he could reach me, Duncan stepped in.
He held Johnson's hand and moved him away from me effortlessly.
Duncan had already let us live.
I knew he wouldn't let us continue if we didn’t obey the rogue laws.
As Duncan held me, I suddenly felt a sharp pang on my wrist.
I let go of his hand immediately, startled, as I began to check what had caused it.
And then, before my eyes, something impossible happened.
A mate bond.
It suddenly seared between Duncan and I, burning against our wrists, glowing faintly as it settled into place like it had always belonged there.
My breath caught.
I stared at him in shock.
So did Johnson.
Johnson's face twisted with rage as he began to walk towards me again, reaching out to drag me away, ignoring the bond that had just formed.
"Who dares to touch my mate in my presence?!!" Duncan snarled.
And in the next second,he shifted.
A massive, brown streaked, formidable wolf stood in front of me, his body tense, protective and deadly.
His eyes locked on Johnson.
Waiting and daring him to try again.
