We were all loaded and headed out. I left a note and the phone he gave me on my bed. He at least deserved an explanation. We were about twenty miles from the pack house when I heard a painful howl in the distance. I felt my eyes fill up with tears as we drove away. I needed this. If he truly loved me, he would wait for me, just like he said he would.
"So where are we going?" I asked my parents.
"We are going to Jackson, Wyoming. It's only about four hours from here." I nodded and leaned my head against the window and drifted off to sleep.
"Wake up honey, we are here." My mom said, shaking me lightly.
I slowly opened my eyes and I looked around. I saw a two-story log home with huge windows covering one side of the house. It had a porch that wrapped around the second flood. Beside it was a six-stall barn with run outs for each stall. I got out of the truck and unloaded both horses and took them to the barn.
I put them in their own stall and began filling up their water and giving them some hay. I looked around and it looked like it was just cleaned for us. I unloaded the box of stuff for the horses and started to put it away since we would be staying awhile now. I am hoping that it would just be for a year or maybe two, but we will see, I guess. Once I finished putting the horses' stuff away, I walked to the house.
I walked inside and it was amazing. It had hardwood floors, granite countertops, barnwood cupboards. It had an antler chandelier hanging above the kitchen table and one in the kitchen over the breakfast bar. There were a lot of large mounts of animals all over the walls of the house. Some were deer, some were elk, some were beer. Some were even mountain lions. I walked around just trying to get a general lay out of the house when I heard my mom.
"Mia? Come here please."
I walked down the hall and towards my mom's voice. I walked into an office with her sitting behind a large mahogany desk, typing on a computer. I looked around and I saw the walls were covered in books. I looked back at the desk and it was sitting on a bear rug. I sat in one of the chairs in front of the desk waiting for my mom.
"What do you think?" She stops typing and looks at me.
"It's pretty, but why do we need this big of a house? This is just temporary."
"Xavier and Leah are lending it to us. That way, Leah can come every so often and help you to learn Luna duties when you are ready. Don't worry, they won't tell Dean that we are here."
"Okay. What did you need? I am kind of tired so I was just gonna go to bed." I said, looking around the office.
"I was just going to tell you that you start work tomorrow at Jackson Animal Hospital at nine in the morning. You will work till three, then come home and it's only two days a week. They said you can pick which days you want. The other days will consist of training your powers." She said, smiling.
"Okay, that's fine, I will probably just do Tuesdays and Thursdays," I said, standing up.
"Okay just let them know tomorrow honey. Goodnight."
"Okay goodnight mom, love you."
"Love you too." She blows me a kiss and I blow her one back.
Walking up into the room, I couldn't help but feel lonely. I hope this feeling goes away sooner rather than later. I hope this was the right choice. I dig through my bag and I see I accidentally grabbed one of Deans t-shirts. I throw it to the side and keep looking but I come up short of finding pjs. I looked back at the shirt and hesitated.
"One night of wearing it won't hurt, right?" I said to myself, shrugging.
I grabbed the shirt and went into the bathroom. I took a shower and shaved my legs and under my arms. I scrubbed my body and rinsed off the soap. I threw on Dean's shirt and his scent engulfed me. I smiled a little and I could hear Emerald whimper a little in the back of my head. I know she missed her mate but she also didn't want me to get hurt anymore.
I finished my nightly routine and climbed into bed. I was still pretty early, only about six, but I wanted to get a good night's rest. Plus, I wanted to get up early enough so I could go for a quick ride before I went to work. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, feeling like Dean was sleeping right next to me.
Dean's POV
I woke up and felt something was off. Alistar was pacing in my head, giving me a headache from hell. I groaned and got out of bed to go check on Mia. I knocked and there was no answer, so I knocked again but still no answer. So I put my ear up to the door and I listened for any noise, nothing. I kicked the door down in a panic and I saw her bed was neatly made with a white note and her phone on it. I rushed over and grabbed it, reading it.
'Dean, I'm sorry it had to be this way but I just need space. I need to learn more about myself and werewolves. Being around you is so distracting. I can't focus on anything. I feel like once I get everything under control I will be able to be around you more. But I also can't help but feel like you are still in your old player stage. I saw you kissing that other girl and it hurt so badly. I've never felt that kind of pain before. You say you will wait for me, no matter how long it takes. Well, I guess we will see if you are true to your word. Please don't look for me. I will come home when I am ready. All I ask is that you wait for me. -Love Mia XO'
I crumbled the paper in my hand and threw it on the floor. I growled so loudly the walls of the house shook. I turned around and saw my mother and father staring at me. I pushed passed them and took off down the stairs and outside. I shifted, shredding my clothes. I let out a painful howl, hoping Mia would hear it and come back to me. I took off into the woods, taking my anger out on trees and logs, and I hunted small game. After a few hours, I finally stopped by a creek and laid down.
"She doesn't want us... You should've pushed her away sooner!" Alistar whimpers in my head.
"She does bud, we just have to wait. Remember this is all so new to her. It must have been a lot to take in all at once. I did push her away! She must not have been that." I snapped back.
I lay there for a few minutes when I felt someone watching us. I stood up and looked around. I looked to our right and I saw golden eyes looking back at me. I growled and the wolf stepped out and bowed down. He then shifted. He was around six feet with salt and pepper hair and chocolate brown eyes. He seemed familiar but I wasn't sure.
"Would you mind shifting young alpha? I would like to have a chat with you." He said while pulling on his shorts and sitting down.
I shifted and grabbed a pair of shorts from a tree nearby and sat down about ten feet away from him. Eyeing him making sure he wasn't going to do anything. When he finally spoke again.
"My name is Levi, I am the king's beta. We met a few days ago. Your Dean, right?" I suppressed a growl and nodded at him. He continued. "I am looking for Mia, I need to speak with her. It's urgent."
"Good luck with that bud, she left." I said flatly, looking away.
"What do you mean she left? What did you do?" He raised his voice a little and I glared at him.
"I didn't do anything, she just needed space." I spit back at him.
"I am her uncle, the true king's beta." He said proudly.
"Kings beta? She is the princess?" I asked, confused.
"Yes, well, now she will be the queen. Her father has passed many years ago." He said sadly.
"I think you have the wrong girl." I frowned.
"Mia Krused will turn nineteen a few weeks. She is also the first ever hybrid. I know who my queen is." He glared at me.
I sat shocked. My mate was a queen and hybrid at that. Why wouldn't she tell me? Did she not trust me enough? I will earn her respect and trust so that she tells me herself. I looked back at the man.
"What do you want with her?"
"I was supposed to meet her so we could discuss a plan to over throw Hunter, her dad's brother. He has been hunting her so that he can kill her so he can stay the king."
"We cannot let that happen. How do I know I can trust you?"
"I am loyal to the queen. I will always protect the queen, no matter what. When I took my place as beta I vowed to always protect the queen." He made some weird sign.
"Okay, I guess we will have to work on this together. She left because she said she needed time to learn more about werewolves and herself. I assume it's more about her being a hybrid now that you say this." I stand up and so does he. "How do I know that you won't report back to the king?
"Her father's last wish was to protect her and her mother. We have been best friends since we were in diapers. We did everything together." He said.
"Okay, but one wrong move bud and you're dead." I glarred at him.
"I'd like to see you try, but I admire you." He smirked.
"We should tell my parents, brother and his mate so that they are aware and can help us. They are the only ones we will tell. The less that know, the better." I said, walking towards the house.
"Agreed," Levi said while following me.
We walked back to the pack house and I had my parents meet us in the office. We told them everything. To say they were shocked was an understatement. My mom seemed to fidget a little, but that could be because of all the new information. We began planning to have our warriors train with Levi twice a week so they would have more of a chance once the war started. I guess this is how my life is gonna go until Mia gets back. Train, train and more training. As long as she's safe, then that's all I care about.
