Maximus
I stood up and brushed the dust off my knees. I turned toward Selene while she sat on the floor with her eyes red and pleading.
“Maximus, please.” She begged. “You will have to believe me. If I... if I knew,” she started but I cut her off.
“There is no need for this.” I said. My voice was flat. "The man you knew died the night he thought he lost his child. I am not that man anymore."
"But I am here!" she cried out. "I am alive!"
“Are you?” I asked. I looked around at the rotting room. “Because this feels like a grave to me.”
I turned my back on her and walked toward the balcony. I didn't want to hear her excuses or her plans to settle things with me. I pulled out my phone and made a call to Adrian.
"Clean the house," I ordered. "Get rid of the bodies and get her back to the
