Dimitri’s POV I’ve waited years for this moment to come. For centuries the Yenorian line had been a myth, and I had chased and searched through everything I could lay my hands on but found nothing. All for the chance to stand where I was standing now in Petyr’s basement. I looked at her and I was beyond fascinated at how she looked exactly like Selene. How was that even possible when they were born generations apart? I leaned forward as my hands brushed through her hair and then her pale face. I couldn't believe she was real. She was exactly the power I needed to finally become what I’ve yearned for years. "Maximus thought he could hide you in plain sight," I murmured as my hand moved to her chest. I felt the faint beat of her heart and I could already feel the static of her power. It was a low hum that made the wolf in my blood howl for release. "Petyr," I called out without looking back. The Druid moved behind me, his eyes darting toward the girl with a mix of fear and greed. " She is awakening, Sire. The soul is settling. But it will take time, maybe some days." I hummed in response and kept my eyes focused on her. "You are the key, Yena. You are the immortality I was promised. And I have been far too patient to let you go now." I gently picked her up from the bed and held her firmly against me. “Then I will be taking her with me,” I said to Petyr. He nodded quickly, but then he hesitated. “Alpha, what about her sister? What should I tell her when she comes for her sister’s body?” I looked down at the girl in my arms and felt a cold surge of possession. Celeste was a complication I didn't care for, but she was still the one currently keeping Maximus distracted. “Tell her nothing,” I replied, my voice low. “Tell her the body was taken by someone else or that it disappeared. Let her panic. It will keep her busy while I settle Yena in the West.” Petyr bowed his head, but I could tell he was worried about the consequences. I didn't care about his fear. I had waited too long for this and I wasn't going to let a human girl or a greedy Druid stand in my way now that I finally held the prize. I walked out of his shop and toward the car, and being this close to her pushes the wolf in my blood. He wants her more than even I do. I held Yena tightly against my chest and inhaled her scent even though she smelt like dead blood from the ritual. Darius was already waiting by the back door. He pulled it open, but he froze the second he saw her face. He stared at her with his eyes widening in total disbelief. "Alpha," he whispered, and his voice was thick with shock. "How is this possible? She looks exactly like Selene. They are two of them?" "She is a hollow shell, Darius," I muttered as I slid into the seat and settled Yena’s limp body across my lap. "This is the real prize. This is the blood we’ve been waiting for." Finding Yena has made me regret bringing Selene back to life. I thought she was what I needed to awaken my immortality, but her Yenorian blood is devoid of the power I seek. Silas, my other beta, had the same reaction when he saw her on my lap. "If she looks like that, how are you going to keep her hidden?" Silas asked, and his brow furrowed with worry. "The other Selene is already suspicious. If she sees this girl, she’ll know she’s being replaced.” I looked down at Yena and brushed a stray hair away from her forehead. She looked so peaceful and so unaware of the war she was about to ignite. "Then we make sure they never meet," I said, and my voice was cold and final. "Selene stays at the main estate where she can play her games. Yena stays in the West under my personal guard." I leaned back as Silas finally started the car and pulled away from Petyr's shop. "Drive," I ordered. "And don't stop until we're across the border." I shifted my weight as the car pulled up the long, winding driveway of my private estate in West Crestenside. This house was built for silence and for secrets, and it was tucked far enough away from the main pack lands that it felt like another world. It was the only place I felt I could truly breathe without the stench of Maximus’s shadow looming over me. Darius stepped out and opened the door, and his eyes were still lingering on the girl in my lap. He reached in to help, but I pulled her closer to my chest. A low, possessive growl vibrated in my throat before I could stop it, and he stepped back immediately while bowing his head in apology. "I have her," I said, and my voice was rough. I carried her inside the house and climbed the stairs to the master’s bedroom where I laid her down on the bed. She looked so small under the dark fabric and her skin was so pale. Silas appeared in the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest. He looked around the room and then back at the girl. "The perimeter is set, Alpha. My best men are on the treeline. No one gets in or out without your word. But what happens when she wakes up and starts asking for the life she remembers?" I stood at the edge of the bed and looked down at her. "She won't remember. The transition between bodies and the trauma of the basement... I doubt she will remember anything.” "And if her soul recognizes the truth?" Silas pressed, and his voice was quiet. "You saw how she reacted to Maximus in the city.“ "Maximus is irrelevant now," I snapped as I turned to face him. "He’s back at the mansion with her sister. He’s already distracted. By the time he looks for the truth, Yena will belong to me, and every part of her will be mine." "Go," I ordered. "Watch the roads. If Petyr breathes a word of this to anyone, kill him." Silas nodded and disappeared into the hallway. I turned back to the bed and sat on the edge while watching her beautiful face. She is just perfect. "I've waited far too long for you, Selene," I whispered, and the name slipped out before I could catch it. I corrected myself as my eyes narrowed. "Yena. You are my Yena now." I reached out and touched her cheek, and I could feel the faint warmth of her life force. It was only a matter of time now.
