Chapter Thirty-Two They were gone. Brent and the four other Guardians controlling the weapon at the Nova Fortuna had been blown to smithereens by the Scythians. Ethan tried to tell himself that the Guardians were only machines but it didn’t help. He recalled Strongquist’s question about love. The androids might not be made of flesh and blood but their minds were formed from human minds. Five people at the Nova Fortuna had died. And not only that: all the babies that Cariad had been growing on the ship had died along with them. What would he say to her? He’d known all along that it would probably come to this.
