Chapter 8Ruth hurried inside against the wind, the back door slamming with a loud bang behind her. “You win some, you lose some,” she muttered to herself. She dusted off her dripping overcoat, hung it on the wire rack beside the door, and set her umbrella in the kitchen sink. A reflection of the weather, her interview with Transworld Publishers had been a total washout. Rejection, she’d learned, was an unavoidable occupational hazard.
