Chapter 14“You’re humming.”
Ruth looked up from her Wheelwriter to find Nili standing in her office doorway.
“Was I?” she asked.
“You never hum.”
Ruth shrugged. “Things can change.”
“You don’t say.”
“Could you stay over Wednesday and Thursday?” Ruth asked.
“Suppose I could. What’s going on?”
“Sam and I are going to Gib.” Ruth blurted the words like a schoolgirl who’d been asked on a date by the most handsome boy in the class.
“So we’re calling it ‘Gib’ now, or?”
“Oh, don’t be such a tease.”
Nili stepped inside the room. “It’s lovely to see you so happy, Ruti. And I like Sam a lot . . .”
“But?”
“Aren’t you at all worried things are moving too fast? I mean, you’ve already introduced him to the children, and now you’re going away together. It’s only been a couple of weeks.”
