"A Name He Won’t Say"

Haneul’s world tilted. She hadn’t seen him in years—not since high school, when she had been just another student in his orbit, admiring from a distance. The golden boy of their school, the heir to an empire. And now, Ra Hyeon stood before her. Not as a distant memory. Not as an untouchable dream. But as her boss. The realization hit like ice water. She barely managed to keep her posture straight as he glanced at her with that same detached indifference, his all-black suit tailored to perfection, his presence commanding the attention of everyone in the room. It was like she didn’t exist to him. No sign of recognition. No hesitation in his voice as he spoke. "We should get going, Secretary Seo." Secretary Seo. That was all she was to him. Haneul’s grip tightened around the edge of the table, her knuckles turning white. This couldn’t be happening. Walking to Work – The Game Begins Silence stretched between them as they left the café. The towering Hyeon Group headquarters loomed ahead, but Haneul barely noticed it. She was too busy trying to process. Of all the people in the world, why him? She had imagined her first day working under a CEO to be strict, maybe even exhausting. But she had never prepared for this. For him. She cast a quick glance at Ra Hyeon. He walked with effortless authority, every step measured, gaze locked straight ahead. Unreachable. Unshaken. Untouchable. Just like he had always been. And her? She had been the foolish girl who once thought he was worth dreaming about. She forced herself to swallow the bitter taste of nostalgia. That was years ago. She wasn’t that girl anymore. She wasn’t just some high school nobody with a crush. She was Seo Haneul—the chairman’s personal recommendation. One of the top legal minds in the company. If Ra Hyeon thought she was just an ordinary secretary, he was in for a surprise. She straightened her shoulders and quickened her pace, matching his stride. "I assume the chairman made the decision to transfer me," she said coolly, breaking the silence. Ra Hyeon barely glanced at her. "Yes. He personally recommended you for this role." Haneul hummed, her voice even. "And you agreed?" This time, he did look at her. Sharp. Calculating. Unreadable. "I didn’t have a reason to refuse." Haneul forced down a scoff. That’s all she was to him? A convenient choice? Fine. If he wanted to act like they were strangers, then she’d let him believe it. The Private Elevator – First Strike As expected, whispers followed them the moment they stepped into the Hyeon Group lobby. "Is that the new CEO?" "He’s even colder in person…" "Who’s the woman with him?" "She’s gorgeous. Is she his…?" Haneul rolled her eyes. Here we go again. Ra Hyeon, of course, remained completely unaffected. She barely had time to prepare before they stepped into the private elevator—and suddenly, it was just the two of them. The doors slid shut. The air shifted. It was subtle, but Haneul felt it. The weight of his presence. The stillness. The tension. She refused to let it shake her. This was just an elevator ride. She kept her posture straight, fingers still at her side—until she noticed something. Ra Hyeon was watching her. Not in a way that was obvious, but with the kind of gaze that assessed, measured, calculated. Like he was piecing something together. "Do I know you?" Her breath caught. Haneul turned, meeting his dark gaze. His expression was unreadable—but there was something else in his eyes now. A flicker of doubt. So. He wasn’t sure. A slow smile curled at the edge of her lips. Not wide enough to be noticed. Just enough to be dangerous. She tilted her head slightly. "Should you?" The elevator dinged open before he could answer. Ra Hyeon’s expression remained calm, unaffected, but there was something new in his gaze as he stepped out. She followed a second later, her heart steady, her mind sharp. If he didn’t remember her? She wouldn’t remind him. If he was pretending? She’d play along. Because one thing was clear—this job was going to be more complicated than she had ever imagined. And Seo Haneul? She wasn’t about to lose the first move.
