Her skin was so pale that Connie wondered if she had ever been out in the sun, and it contrasted perfectly with the deep red lipstick she wore to cover her pouting lips. “You must be Connie?” Carla said, smiling down at her from the top stoop. “Please come in and make yourself at home.” Connie thanked her and entered through the open doorway. Once inside the vast hallway, Connie waited for Carla to close the front door behind her, before venturing any further inside. “Please,” Carla gestured towards the open door at the far end of the hallway.
