  Fern   Maelis doesn't let me leave the hospital wing until she's satisfied I won't collapse in the hallway. She stands in the corner, watching me with hawk-like eyes as I drag my feet across the small room.   "See," I grunt in triumph. "I am fine."   She types something into her phone before looking up at me again. "Perhaps I should call the Alpha. He can steady you on your way back to your room."   "No!" I say almost too quickly. So quickly that Maelis raises an eyebrow in my direction. "I just... I don't want to bother him."   A knowing look crosses her face, but she doesn't argue.
