16 16Interlaken, Switzerland, 3 July 2014 On the east lakeshore of the resort town of Interlaken, a wedding ceremony was at an end. The minister pronounced the couple husband and wife, and with a smile, permitted, “You may kiss the bride.” The couple embraced and lip-locked underneath a verdant arch. Family and guests, seated in two neat rows on the lawn, rose and applauded. Their parents shook hands, congratulations were passed around. The minister cleared his throat, and to the accompaniment of chuckles from their guests, the couple reluctantly broke away. They faced the crowd, bowed. Then the bride twirled on her husband"s hand and tossed her bouquet. There was a scramble among the spinsters. Someone tripped, another was shoved out of the way, someone leapt.
