44Rising a thousand feet above the London cityscape is a 95-storey skyscraper that looks something out of a science fiction movie. Its facade of 11000 reflective glass panels covers an area of 8 football pitches. Each of its four facets resembles a gigantic shard of glass, inclining gently, upward and inward, toward a spire, yet, never touching each other. The edifice incorporates design elements to thwart a 9/11-like attack. It was inaugurated in July 2012 and has been the site of several illegal BASE-jumping stunts, a Greenpeace protest, and a fund-raising abseiling event by the Duke of York.
