Chapter 5, Part 5

747 Words
Tyson POV The guards in front of us wouldn’t even know what hit them. When we fought Talon’s guards before Alex took the throne, they had been training for a while to face a lycan in battle. These guys had no idea what to do. “Once the larger amount of guards start to go down, I want you to go after those trucks to keep them safe.” Valeria mindlinked. “I’ll wrap up the last ones.” “Sure.” I replied and Dax sprinted towards the guards, instantly ripping into the one closest to me. The ground rumbled and I felt Valeria push forcefield after forcefield towards the guards. I heard the screams and it didn’t take long until the guards started running back towards the mansion. “Wimps.” Dax muttered before swiping his paw over the neck of a guard he pinned underneath him. “These guys just can’t handle anything.” “Let’s get back to the trucks.” I said and Dax took off down the road with Eze by his side. The trucks had rolled quite far down the road, and I caught a glance of Tayrin’s dad at the wheel of the first truck. Dax ran up beside him and barked before running ahead of the truck, leading the way towards the border. Once we were back onto the lycan side, the people in the trucks would be safe. I saw the border coming up, and Dax growled when he saw vampires standing in our way in an attempt to stop us. Dax tensed and got ready to jump them when the vampires looked up. A flash of something above me made me look up too and I saw Valeria’s glowing hair fly past me, aiming for the guards. The guards’ feet lifted into the air and I ran past them, the trucks following me closely. I glanced back and saw Eze pass the border as well before the guards fell to the ground screaming in terror. I led the way to the nearest town and we parked the trucks in the parking lot of a local supermarket. Valeria soared down next to me and I shifted back to human form while people jumped out of the cargo spaces of the trucks. “Nice work.” I said and wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her closer to me. “You too.” Valeria whispered. “We’re quite a team.” I chuckled and kissed her temple. We stood silent and watched while Tayrin and her dad hugged tightly, and Valeria smiled when Tayrin pulled Aidan into a hug as well. “I hope she sticks around.” Valeria said quietly. “I like her.” I chuckled. “Now that she knows about us, it would be great for Aidan to have someone to share all of this with.” “Someone that isn’t Ned.” I added and Valeria chuckled too. Alex and Joey walked up to us. “Well that was messy.” Joey said. “I’ll have to come back tomorrow with troops to handle this clan.” Alex muttered. “We can’t have clans trafficking humans for sport.” “Do you need backup?” Tyson asked. “I can send over some troops if you need to.” “I’ll call you if anything goes sideways.” Alex replied. “But your troops are still recovering from the witch attack. I don’t want to put more strain on them than necessary.” Eight hours later, we had sorted out the last of the contestants and made sure that they got home safely. Of course they all got a backstory to explain to their families why they went missing. Being abducted by vampires wasn’t really a believable story anyway. Aidan, Tayrin and her dad rested a few floors below us in the Maxwell building and both Valeria and I groaned in exhaustion when we crawled beneath the covers in our bedroom. “That was intense.” Valeria said sleepily. “Yeah.” I said softly and traced the bite marks on her neck. “Let’s never do that again.” “We’ll never do that again.” Valeria repeated. “I promise.” I raised an eyebrow. “You promise?” Valeria’s sly smile told me everything that I needed to know. I couldn’t say that I liked it. But I couldn’t expect anything else from the superhero I was mated to.
