Kaida’s POV
I wouldn't have felt so exhausted if not for the copious amounts of liquor I'd consumed yesterday, now I was starting to imagine how many I even took– like twelve, maybe more.
…I can't start counting.
I rolled over the bed, my hand blindly searching for the alarm clock that had gone off a quarter of an hour ago, Gosh was the beeping sound really pissing me off.
I tapped around for it.
When I suddenly came to the clock, I slammed it so hard that i knocked it and other things off the table.
Stupid clock…
I then turned away and was greeted by the sight of the rising sun, its bright rays streaming through the windows.
I couldn't believe how quickly the night had given way to day - one minute I was fast asleep, and the next, I'm looking for ways to close the curtains.
I took a few minutes of my time to sit upright and when I did get up, my head felt a bit light and deep down i wanted to sleep more but– just because I wanted to sleep doesn't mean I get to.
I slowly dragged over the duvet and stood up. My feet immediately sank intos something moist underneath,
I looked at the floor, “ Why is the floor wet?”. And saw the bottle of water on the floor, might have fallen down when I knocked over the table. I sighed, picked up the bottle and had curiously place my steps so not to slip
I went straight to the toilet– literally swaying and holding the walls to cushion my footsteps.
When I got inside, a displeasing smell breathe out the doorway.
I gaped.
I pinched my nose only to hear Kaius flushing, But I barged into him as he was coming through with a towel around his neck.
He smiled at me,“ Good morning sunshine. Why do you look pretty messed up? ” he asked with a chuckle.
“... Hungry? ” he added
Well, I shook my head- of course i was. And I also had a rough night.
“ You look like you need a few more hours of sleep? ” He caressed his palms against my cheeks.
I nodded in response, was too tired to even start a conversation but I couldn't go back to sleep, today was my day.
Yup, I was right on the money because I have an entire ceremony ahead of me, yeah, the Luna contest which will be holding this evening had me at the frontline.
The very thought of it made my tummy rumble– or maybe I desperately needed something to munch on.
I had one goal etched in stone: win the Luna contest or risk losing Kaius to some other woman. No way was I letting that happen. I'd already secured the Claiming, but the real challenge lay ahead. The Luna contest would be a fiery showdown.
You know the claiming had always been a steep climb and I overcame it by winning Kaius' heart, but this new ceremony was different, everyone was going to be made present in the Luna choosing contest.
Attendees included representatives from the five major houses across the country, Alphas, pack leaders, moon hunters, pack masters and mistresses, plus the Baron of the Forest, the Uktena (Spiritual Leader), and numerous other influential figures and my family wasn't expecting me to mess up.
Now if I win, Kaius gets to become something known as the Lord of the Moon, which was basically the overall leader of his pack, which basically meant taking the mantle from his uncle as the new pack leader
And I knew I'm going to win, it's clear.
“ What’s happening babe, you've been staring at the mirror for over thirty minutes, what? you lost in your reflection? ” Kaius asked.
“ Ugh, isn't it too early to tell the neighbors that you're awake…
“ … Don't be silly, ” He retorted.
I flipped on the faucet and started scrubbing my face clean. Once done I brought my head up and locked eyes with my reflection in the mirror.
“ you know you should try and maintain some level of maturity when talking your baby, ”
His voice bursts into a belly-laugh.
” But I'm being dead serious,” He added, his voice muffed.
“ We live in a baroque estate, where in the goddess’ name did you find the neighbors? ”
“ You can never know, ” I replied, leaving the sink.
Kaius was tying his shoelaces when I got back in the room. He was getting packed for work and I had to ask, “ You do realize the contest is this evening, right?”
He gave me a shoulder shrug and picked up his briefcase.
“ I'll be back home before afternoon, just make sure you don't get a bit drowsy because today's going to be exceptionally long, ”
“ And that's suppose to help me boost my morals, Kaius, ”.
“ Look, I'm just saying, I'd appreciate your willingness to help get the ceremony on the way; but my uncle has already arranged for some persons to handle it– so take your time to rest and get ready for the moment, that's not too much to ask for”
Our discussion accompanied us to the door, where we exchanged pleasant goodbyes and we kissed and I closed the door.
And guess who's going to the ceremony regardless? Yup, This girl. Let's be real, I was always going to go.
I immediately went searching for my phone upstairs, I had to call in my brother, Arkyn and my mom, Ophelia if I had any chance of getting to the ceremony on time and speaking of upstairs, the floor was still slippery.
I went into the kitchen, picked up the mop and went upstairs.
After about a minute I was holding the phone hands-free, the thing was wedged between my ear and shoulder as I cleaned up the floor and left it to dial.
Then I felt a vibration, the line picked up.
“ Arkyn…” I winked, and kept a calm tone.
He coughed.
“... Let me guess you're calling to ask for something, aren't you? ” the phone crackled to life and I could hear
“ I mean… yeah. You know what today is right? ” I replied, rasing an eyebrow.
He said nothing.
“ Uhm, ” He dragged, “ Nothing's coming up, ”.
“ The Luna choosing contest, don't tell me you let that go over your head ”
He immediately erupts into cheers, “ Oh my God, On everything I love i actually forgot. ”
Typical…
“ I want you and mom at the estate so we could all head over to the place, ”
“ No problem… I wouldn't disappoint ”
“ You better not, ” I said as the line went dead.
