Chapter 2

Esmeralda heads home. She enjoyed her lesson today. She's learnt a new power, shooting fire from her hands. It felt awesome, but she didn't understand why she needed it. Mrs Brown was telling her there's more to learn to protect herself. But she wasn't big enough to learn weapons yet. "Bye, Mrs Brown, have a good night." Esmeralda shouted to her, skipping through the front door. They all hated that she couldn't call Mrs Brown Aunty in front of the others. Even though many in the pack did, as their ancestors found that marrying their distant cousins, we kept the blood line strong. She learnt when visiting some elites in the human world that her grandfather owed a favour to them, and they do similar. She never married as she wanted my soul mate that Hecate arranges. Sadly, it's looking more likely she won't as she's now 300. Even though she doesn't look over 60 in human years. The high priestess and priest, at the time, did try to force her to marry when she got to 40. But she ran away for a few years, but her money soon ran out and she had no choice but to come back. When she did, she was outcasted just like her nieces. It took nearly 100 years for her to start to be accepted again. but there are a few elders that still won't allow her to be accepted by their families. If she was honest with herself, if it wasn't for the fact she was pure blood, she most likely never has been. Esmeralda has headed straight for the kitchen as she could smell her mum's cooking. She jumps up on the breakfast bar stool, and her mum giggles. "Baby girl, I guess your training made you hungry?" "Mumma, Aunty showed me how to make fire." There voices barely a whisper so no one can hear. "Wow, make sure you keep up with your training baby as you need to be able to protect yourself." Her mum replied, she knew all witches needed to. She knew at school only from 13 plus, but her mum and aunty were obsessed she needed it early. Her aunty and mum had talked the other day about that I was picking up too quickly. They seem happy about it, though. Esmeralda did feel sad a little though as her aunty, mum, and her weren't accepted by the coven, so this made them worry about all of their protection. "Mum, will they ever love or care for us?" Esmeralda's question took her mum by surprise. To her knowledge, she was happy here. Not as happy as with her dad, and a part of her must feel that rejection of a pack. Morgan was unsure, though, if that was her feelings. But maybe it wasn't as Esmeralda had asked this question. "Sweetie, why do you feel that way?" "They don't ask us to parties, only the rituals. They don't let me be friends, and most of all, you and Aunty don't think they'll protect me." Morgan stood with tears in her eyes. What has she done to her daughter? Buy she couldn't turn to anyone, no one could help even then. Tears were now rolling down her cheeks, and Esmeralda realised she'd said something wrong. She'd made her mum realise how lonely they all are. Her mum walked from behind the breakfast bar and held Esmeralda. She could feel her mum's tears falling in her hair. "I'm sorry, mumma." "Never be sorry. I forget what an old soul you are." A slight giggle left her lips. Thanks to her daughter and Aunty, she could never feel fully alone. "That is why we are making sure you're trained, princess. Because if you ever feel not protected, you can protect yourself." Suddenly, she smelled burning and rushed back to the cooker. "It's OK, mumma, I understand." How did Morgan get blessed with such an amazing child? She knew her life before the coven helped with that. A feel of guilt waved through her. Maybe she should have asked her mate for help. A few days later, Esmeralda had the fire under control. Usually, someone would need anger, but not Esmeralda. Mrs Brown was so amazed at this. Her niece could weird power like a 16 year old witch. Next is water, this is the fun part as she can learn by just playing. Suddenly, the alarm sounds through from the high priestess. This was done telepathic, Esmeralda and Mrs Brown ran back to the coven. They ran to the ritual centre of the coven. It was just in front of the meeting house. Then they were all shocked by wolf howling. "Get her to the safe room now." Screamed the high priest. Mrs Brown was hesitant as she knew this was her dad. Esmeralda would be safer with him. When suddenly the high priestess and priest daughter picked Esmeralda up and carried her away. "You stay and fight." Mrs Brown watched as her niece was taken screaming and kicking. Even for the first time calling her aunty in front of everyone. Tears slide down Mrs Brown's cheeks. How can she protect her now? "Where is Morgan?" Mrs Brown asked. "She's already in there. Now we need to fight. They can't get her. She and Morgan are our last hope." Their last hope?! Mrs Brown stood there confused, looking at the high priest. "What do you mean?" Mrs Brown is shocked looking at her brother. He had an evil smile on his face. What has she missed? "One of them is the green eye prophecy. They will keep hold of the bubble forever. So now protect your coven sister." How could he say that? He stood by and watched what they did to their sister. She was 2 years younger and he was 4 years younger than their sister. He was not her full brother like her sister. Before her mum went through the ritual, she fell in love with someone. They had him. As he was closest to true blood, he had the right to become a high priest. But he hated my family lineage. He blamed us for his mum dying. He seemed to forget she was my mum a lot longer. She still stood looking at him in disbelief when the evil smirk got bigger. Even with a hint of fear in his eyes. I turned to see a grey wolf running at me. No, this can't happen she needed to survive for Esmeralda and Morgan. She shot an energy ball at it, and it dodged. The next thing she knew was on top of her. All her coven was fighting around her. a few had a chance to help her, and no one did. "Mother Hecate, welcome me home to your loving arms." She then turned to the wolf, "protect Esmeralda the best you're pack can." By the time the witch had finished, the wolf had ripped her throat out. She was shocked by what she said about her niece. She went on a rampage, what had they been doing to her princess. The wolves were failing at this attack. She mind linked her brother to let him know what the witch had said. As she finished mindlinking, a witch stood in front of her. From nowhere, she pulled a silver whip, hitting her with it. "Goodbye brother, get the rest of the pack out of here. We'll try again when my wolf returns." The next thing she knew, the whip was round her throat, slicing into her skin. With 1 swift movement, her head rolled, landing at the witches' feet.
