Chapter 53 - Goddess Nyx  Dameon POV Present time. My jaw drops. The woman who is not Alex but looks like her can apparently hear me through mind-link.  “You heard me?”  She turns around to face me. From her icy demeanor it's clear that this woman is not Lexie. “What's with the f*****g riddles? Why can’t you just answer us straight? You obviously know who I and Princey here are talking about, and it's not you.” I gather my strength and stand up. She raises an eyebrow. “How presumptuous of me. My apologies if that’s how I come across.” It didn’t sound like an apology. “I believe introductions are in order. I am the Goddess Nyx.” She continues. On her face is Lexie’s signature grin—it’s an annoying, sexy smile. She probably already knew that we had no idea who she is and what the f**k it meant. That we had dumb expressions on our faces just made it worse. Her long pause means she's enjoying this too much. "Hmm. I am guessing you haven't heard the name nor understand what my presence here means?" She states the obvious to rub it in.  She sits on the wide couch and motions both of us to sit across from her. Xavier gives me a look and motions me to sit ahead. The goddamn chair was an ottoman that could barely fit two. I sit on the edge and Xavier does the same, hunched forward so we don't touch each other. "I am one of the gods of creation. The other is Khonos, or The God. He is known by other names but he's the one that this world believes in, whether they admit it or not." She rolls her eyes as she mentions the last part. "He is Balance and Order; I was Chaos."  I arch my eyebrow at her, picking up the last bit she uttered. "Was?" "Yes werewolf, was. I am no longer her. Merely my essence lives. I am still her but I am also your precious Alexandra. We cannot live without the other. Even though Michael chooses to believe that I am her. It didn’t help that I allowed my passion for Michael to take hold.” Her eyes twinkle. What the f**k did that mean? I mind link Xavier Easy. Remember, she hears us. He replies. She smiles at our exchange, which she obviously heard. She brushes it aside and continues, “It may seem that she is not here right now. For the past two years, Michael has been training her to wield her powers. He has been making her drink an elixir to accelerate the process that brought out the part of her that is Eternal—me. But the accelerated process also suppresses her psyche. She is here." She stands up and touches her chest. "All this, was her work."  "Even before I came into consciousness, she has come a long way in her training." She waves her hands, and our clothes transform into something else. "This is just one of the things that she can do now. She can transmute matter into what she desires." Xavier and I both jump off the ottoman, surprised to be fully clothed. I look at Xavier and he is wearing a black tuxedo. By the expression on his face I was probably wearing the same. It's what we were wearing at his wedding, judging from the ornate boutonniere on the lapel of his tux, while mine was that single white rose. “What the f**k?" We both chime in. His tone was surprise, mine was of disgust. “Oh, this is the first image I saw of you." She walked towards the table behind the couch, and waves at the photos. It was photos from their wedding. She picks up one with all three of us. "I thought this is how you commonly dress. This is the same image that I saw back in the palace." “Palace?" Xavier asked her.  “Palace. Where I reside with Michael back when I was in planet Aura." “Back in planet—wait a sec. You mean to tell me you were not here on Earth these past two years?" I ask. “There are other worlds?” Xavier mumbles. “Yes, there is a universe full of other worlds. You didn’t think that a vast universe only had earth as its lone living world?” She laughs. “And no, I was not here for the past two years. I was in Aura with the Aurors. It's a world I created when I was still a god, it's a world masked from the universe. Not even Khonos knows of its existence. Only Michael and myself. And now the two of you." “So you've been with Michael for 2 years?" I growl in jealousy. Something tells me there is more to that statement than she would like to share. “Yes, he does not bear her ill will. That’s why he brought her there. It’s the safest place for her. He actually helped her unlock her gifts. He just got too impatient to wait until she and I merged. So he forced me out."  “Why?" Xavier was calm even though I could hear his heart rate rising. I think we both knew what she was going to say next. "What is Michael to you?" “He is my destined, not dissimilar to how you werewolves have mates." She eyes us both like she knew what she said will trigger both of us.  “f*****g hell." I bump into the side table next to me knocking down the glass bowl that was there, causing it to fall and shatter. "He had no right." “Your anger is valid werewolf, so I’ll allow it. But try to remember what you're up against. Surely you could see Michael’s logic?" “So you used Lexie’s body for that. Trapped her somewhere within you? While you and Michael do god knows what!?" I kick the coffee table, sending it flying across the room. “Is she trapped inside you?" Xavier just calmly talks to her. I don't understand how he could be so calm.  This was his fault! If we just didn't put all our trust in that... that thing! I screamed in my head. “Somewhat. but she is here." “I know how that feels; to be trapped inside your own body. It’s hell on earth." Xavier looks away a bit.  I start calming down remembering the time Xavier shared with me what it was like when he was trapped inside himself. Not being able to control what was happening and waking up losing time. Guilt consumed him when he saw what he has done. He wasn't calm, he was hurting. Hurting for Lexie who was trapped inside herself, and at the same time hurting at the memory of what he did.  “I know what happened to you, my Prince. How most unfortunate, that was the work of the Fallen One, his darkness taking hold of my chaos. But with me she is more like asleep. She and I are one, and I mean her no harm. This magic keeps her alive. But it doesn’t do either of us any good if she is dormant. So you must help me bring her forth."  I had to do a double take at what she just said. "So you came here to ask for our help? If you're the goddess of creation, then why can't you just simply do it?" “Like what I already said, I am no longer fully myself, I haven't been for a long time now. I am merely the essence. I am not as powerful as I once was."  “Why us?" Xavier earnestly asks. "Because you have a bond that pulls your lives together, both of you. Like some anchor that pulls her back from whatever darkness it is that consumes her. Imagine pure chaos. That is what stands between our reality and where she sleeps.” “And you think we could somehow draw her out of it? How?" I ask. “That, I don't know. I only know it’s possible because I have seen it done once before.” “What? You’ve got to be kidding me. Here you are, the goddess of creation, a regular high and mighty know-it-all. But you don't know jack s**t how we can help Lexie?" I lash out. "This is a f*****g joke!" “I find it curious that you say you’ve seen this once before.” Xavier approaches her. “When you arrived, at the battlefield? The way you looked at me—it’s as if you recognized me. And I have a feeling it’s not because of Alex." She turns around and looks away. "No. You and I—we have history. Remember the visions when you got your mark?" “That was you?" Xavier replies. “An essence of myself, yes. Life like mine isn't a one singular flow. It branches and circles back. My original form was destroyed by Khonos. But my essence lives on, circling back. Several times already, in fact. But only once has this happened that the mortal form is stronger than my essence..." “You’re the Lycan queen…" He continues for her.  “That is correct. She was I. Our paths crossed then because you are one of the original creations of the Fallen One, a Lycan. You were the Lycan Prince. Your existence here today is your essence circling back. You getting the mark takes you one step closer to achieving your true self.” “How come Michael didn't take you then?" Xavier asks. The entire time I was out of the whole loop. I’m still trying to piece the information together.  She answers him, “Being with you masked me from him. Your presence in Alexandra’s life masked her from him as well. He only knew how to find her when her darkness started to manifest. Even then, he wasn’t really certain it was me. He only got confirmation when he entered this world.”  “Do you—do you have memories of your time as Lycan queen?" “I remember everything. I remember your love for me, our children, and your unwavering devotion to your people.” They both stared at each other intently. Once again I started feeling like the odd man out, playing third wheel. Which is just f*****g great. So even back then they were destined to be together? How do I beat that? “Well isn't this just f*****g great?" I couldn't take it anymore. I walk out of the room fuming, and didn't stop until I was out of the house. Before reaching the front door I could hear Xavier calling after me. I didn't stop. I just shout back, "Leave me alone, man!" I step out on the porch. Ahead is the driveway. This was where I took Lexie away from here. If only things would be as simple now as they were then. When my only competition was regular old Xavier.  Now, there’s a f*****g Angel, the Lycan prince Xavier and the original Lycan prince. I don't think the universe could f**k me over any further. Or maybe it can, since that God Khonos is also after her.  Fucking hell! I brush my hair off my forehead and sit on the first step of the porch. And just like regular Xavier, moments later he sits next to me. We were silent there for a while. But then it became awkward and I had to say something. “I just can't. Maybe if I had your history with her? Or if I was supposedly married with kids to her in another life? Then maybe, I could calmly stand there and hear about Michael, and who you were in a past life or whatever the f**k you call it. It’s just a little too much." “You know, when Alex first told me she loved you, it was the night you left. She was so heartbroken. But I knew. For years I knew that you both liked each other growing up. The way you both looked at each other or how she was so heartbroken when you ditched her at prom for that cheerleader.” He eyes me. I shrugged. “What? That cheer leader was hot. And you knew why I kept my distance. Besides, you were always there, always to rescue.” I looked away. “To be honest, I was so jealous of you during prom.” He shakes his head. “Yeah, me. The fall back guy. Let me turn this around. I was jealous of you. Because even while you were gone, I knew she was still in love with you. I knew that those letters she sent you all those years were love letters." "Wait, what? You knew about those?" “Yep. Besides being the fall back guy, I’m was also the delivery guy.” He manages a snicker. “ Who do you think mailed it? It wasn't like she was allowed to go to the post office." He laughs as he jabs my arm with his elbow. "That’s why when she told me she loved me—when she said yes to marrying me—it was like winning the lottery. I couldn't believe it. I was the happiest man alive." Xavier looks ahead. "Which is why when she told me she fell in love with you again, I was not surprised. I knew it was only a matter of time. So you see, you and Alex aren't some messed up written in the star, destined s**t. You and her are the legit shit." I look at him, "How could you...?"
He cuts me off before I could finish. "How could I say these things? Don't get me wrong. I love Alex and hope to god she chooses me again. But when she comes back and she chooses you? I would respect it. I know now that I crossed paths with Alex because of what she is and what I am. It's like fate bound it. But between being fated or being chosen. I would very much like to be chosen. I’m sure you would, too."
I nodded my head. For the first time in our lives, we agreed about Lexie.
