Chapter Three : A deal with the Alpha

RAVEN. Kade isn't bluffing. I wish he were. This is one of those moments where I could call on his arrogance, roll my eyes, and walk away. But I know him. Too well. I don't believe in anything less than absolute certainty, and he seems to be doing just that right now. As I looked at the boy, my heart races with his name—Luca, Kade's nickname. His face is blemish-colored, and his hoodie grips him like a second skin, saturated with sweat and blood. He breathes with rapidity and shallowness, a type of fear that is often associated with excessive running. However, he is not simply some scared-looking batman. It's evident that Kade' smirked expression has come back. The sluggish, offensive expression that used to make me feel uneasy. The one who declares, I've got you where you belong. I ask, "What's so special about him?". With his arms crossed, Kade stretches out muscles beneath the sleeves of his black shirt. ". His golden eyes sparkle under the dim alley lights, their dark laughter flickering in their depths. I don’t know.’ He muttered. It makes me feel cold when I hear him speak. It's not just that he thinks I'm reckless. He thinks I'm blind. "You've put your life on hold for the son of the most dangerous Alpha in this country," Kade exclaims, shaking his head. The words were as strong as the punch. Luca stiffens beside me, contorting as if he is anticipating my pulling him away. Why? My stomach drops. The Crimson Fang pack. I've heard of them. Hell, everyone has. They're not just powerful—they're ruthless. Bloodthirsty. The group who don't prioritize diplomacy but rather assert their dominance. They don't negotiate. They don't forgive. If their heir is absent, they won't stop until they locate him. Attempt to burn the city to the ground. Or... The chill runs down my spine like a plumper. Kade knows it, too. This is the reason why he appears to be so composed. He is aware of the upcoming events. I experience a flickering sensation on my fingers, with tremors that push down into my abdomen. But there's nowhere to go. The walls are closing in, and Kade's weight is weighing down on me like a cage. My gaze flicks to Luca. With his hands resting on the ground, he remains quiet. He has a clear understanding of my thoughts. I saved him. Now I'm trapped with him. Shit. I'm struggling to hold my breath. "How long until they locate him?" asked. Why? Kade doesn't answer right away. Rather than doing it quickly, he takes his time to study me closely, much like a predator studying its prey. His silence is more distressing than any answer he could have given. "He concludes by saying that they are already looking.". My teeth are grinding and I'm like "Wow, this is good.". Kade smirks, infuriatingly unbothered. “First, you give me the kid, and I deal with the aftermath.”. I stiffen. “And two?”. His smirk fades. You run, he says. “Just try and disappear before they smell it up.”. His voice is low, unreadable. His statement about it gives me a feeling of chills. I have a clear understanding of his words. Why? They will find you, Raven. I breathe in deeply, keeping my voice steady. "Do you think I'm scared of them?". Kade doesn't answer. Because he doesn't have to. We both know the truth. Fear is not the issue. The Crimson Fang's speed remains constant, regardless of my running pace. I can understand this for certain. I am not going to be killed by them just yet.? They're going to emulate me. Luca grabs my attention with my head tilt. The kid looks down at the ground with a clenched jaw. He knows what's coming too. His words are too eloquent. I sigh. “Hint, I guess.” Then again, there's a third choice. Kade's eyes flash. He concedes that there is, but he doesn't think it will be enjoyable for you. The conversation is already making me feel sorry for my actions. "Try to help me out a bit.". As Kade approaches, he emits his scent. The presence of dark spice and smoke has a distinct influence on me. It's infuriating. And, to make matters worse, I don't retreat. “I welcome you,” he says. His voice is even, calm. Nevertheless, there is a weight that can be dangerous.' I scoff. “You're kidding.”. “I don't kid.”. I laughed with a lack of humor. "Ew." is the correct answer. The great Kade Laurent is not known for his humor. He gives instructions and desires everyone to conform.. He returns with a grimace, but it's not amusing. "It had an impact on you once.". My veins are hot from the intense anger. I snap. "And guess what, that got us.". Silence. Thick, suffocating. Even though Kade looks dim, I don't let it bother me. He is mistaken when he thinks a boss can force me into anything and everything. But then he speaks again. This time, he has a new voice. Lower. More dangerous. “Don’t you think so?’ 'You see his golden beard touches mine too...?” I feel breathless for a second. ‘This isn’T me here. It's not even about you. If you intervened, you were branded.’ Regardless of your location, they will come to your aid. There's only one way for you to make it through this. I swallow hard, throat dry. He's right. Damn him, but he's right. Walking out doesn't matter now.". By going into the night and pretending all of this never happened.?... Crimson Fang will find me.... Whenever they do, I won't be given another opportunity. My hands clench into fists. I hate this. I hate that I'm trapped. The fact that Kade is putting me in danger makes it unbearable to me. But most of all—. I despise the fact that there is no choice.' Kade watches me, waiting. He knows he's already won. Despite my efforts, I must meet his gaze and keep hold of any remaining control. ". I grit my teeth. “Fine, I’ll go with you,” I bite out. Luca lets out a shaky breath beside me. I don’t know if it’s relief or fear. Probably both. Kade nods slowly, but there’s something in his eyes—something satisfied. Like he’s been waiting for this moment all along. His lips curve into a smirk. “Good girl.” Rage flares in my chest, hot and violent. “I swear to god,” I mutter, “if you say that again, I’m breaking your nose.” His laugh is deep, rich. Like he doesn’t believe me. Like he’s already in control. But as I walk toward him, I make myself a promise. This time, he won’t control me. This time, if I have to play by his rules— I’ll make damn sure I break them.
