The rider didn’t answer me, he practically pushed me through the archway into the city, and I stumbled forward awkwardly.
When I reached Jasper, who was waiting on the other side, I looked back at the rider, who was huddled around the others in a circle looking terrified. The black stone I'd held seconds before was lying in the scared rider's trembling hand, while the others were staring at it.
