CHAPTER 1 (Outside the blocks)

Chimiya's spice includes mind, sight, hearing, voice, healing, water, fire, earth and air. Everyone who lives in Chimiya possess their own spice, not unless they came from the other city of Peridiya and settle down to this city because of their new family. My moma possess mind spice while I possess the water spice. My popo, he came from the city of Bleus but he's now on Chimiya because of moma and me.

Him living with us in the city is allowed based on the city's rules but popo wasn't allowed to release his full strength, which means he should not use his physical strength as long as he's with us and we are on Chimiya. That's fine with us tho, we've been living a peaceful life eversince.

I suddenly felt something heavy on my shoulder. It was Aka, she fell asleep.

"Aka, you should not use your spice that much you know"

I whispered at her.

Aka's spice is voice. She sings really good and her voice is really powerful but it consumes a lot of energy. Now she's sleeping to regain some, I just won't bother her this time, she have to show off later.

We passed by a lot of blocks on our way to the 20th block and I saw a lot of things that I never knew about the other blocks. Each blocks have tall walls that covers the community inside the area. There are a lot of trees, animals and small stalls outside the blocks and everything look so peaceful. A lot of people were roaming around, there are people who's riding their own motorbike and bikes. Some were also peacefully walking along with their friends. They seem to be having a lot of fun meeting their friends outside the blocks.

Some of them are showing their spices, just like the one I saw when we reach block 35, she's selling musical instruments and her spice creates beautiful music out from the instruments she sells.

There was a group of people as we pass by block 30 whose doing a lot of tricks with their spices and they look like they're having a lot fun.

I have never played with such a carefree manner before. Not even with Aka. I don't know but what we do whenever we are together way back then was sparing. We can't do it all the time tho because our dear block believe that women in our community should sharpen their house chores mastery, skills of taking care people's wound, making magical medicines and stuffs like sewing but all I want was to train myself as much as possible. So everytime me and Aka went out the block, we spar. She like it as well.

We go to the nearest open forest and I'll create water walls to keep people away from seeing us and spend our time fighting each other. That's how our life outside the block is, seeing how the other kids enjoy their time now is somehow heartwarming. They get to make use of their spice for training and fun at the same time.

How come I haven't thought about that before?

The bus stopped and I thought we're at the 20th block entrance but I was wrong. There seems to be some issue outside. The students were trying to peek on what's happening but the driver shoo them away.

"Stay on your seats please"

I roam my eyes around peeking through the window, all I can see was stalls and merchants and the block wall behind them.

wait, what block is this anyway?

"Gosh, we're at the so called den"

I look at Aka, den? what den?

"What den are you talking about? are you half asleep Aki?"

I asked her as I shrug her head off my shoulder.

She scoot over beside me and peek at the window.

"Lie, remember the guys who have earth spice your popo told us? the one who keeps on messing with the travellers from the lower blocks?"

I tried thinking about the stories my popo told us.

Aha!

"oh, are they here?"

I whispered with a glimpse of excitement in my voice as I take a peek on the window as well.

"are you really that dumb Lie? what's so exciting about this?"

This is one of the reason why I couldn't get rid of this crazy gal. She may sound like as if she's worried and afraid but in fact she's just as excited as me jeez.

"Okay it's happening!"

she exclaimed with a low voice

"what? what's goi--woah"

The bus shakes. This is so freaking cool, I can't believe I finally got the chance to stop at block 25. The block is filled with people who have earth spice and people who love messing with travellers and merchants who want to pass by.

The last time I travelled from our block up to the market place located in block 23, I failed making our ride stop here. I'm with popo that time and they didn't bother blocking our way so I tried splashing water to them to see if they'll get mad but they're just seriously ignoring the fact that they were splashed with water.

"This is crazy! Can't we just go and continue? we are going to be late at this rate!"

A man at the back shouted and all of the students including me and Aka look at her.

We got some one serious fella here. I am worried about being late as well but I just can't miss this chance.

The window where Aka was speaking starts to get blurry.

"Damn air spice!"

Now she's pretty mad.

"Wait Aka, let me through"

I remove her away from the window. I pointed my hands on my water bottle and use the water I bought as a two way mirror to see what's happening outside.

I sent one of the water mirror outside and the other one was infront of me.

"Hey! water girl, can you share you screen with everyone here?"

A girl with a red curly hair sitting on the opposite side of our seat asked me.

"sure"

I expanded the mirror, enough for everyone to see and just enough with the water I have. I scanned the place and saw nothing but floating rocks and small fireballs which is floating as well. The users were facing each other, starring-- no, they are talking!

"when are you guys going to be in action?"

I asked frustratedly which made everyone laugh.

"They're not going to fight believe me"

said by the man in front of our table.

"They're going to fight, you'll see"

said by the girl beside him.

"Hey Lie"

Aka called me out.

"what do you think Aka? it looks like they're having a good talk"

I told her what I saw. They'e like settling things by talking and that's kinda disappointing for real. I mean- if that was true, I'll be missing another chance :'(

Will splashing some water heat things up?

"Lie from block 50, don't ever think about trying what you just thought about."

What? there's a teacher riding the bus along with us? I didn't even notice!

"I'm sorry"

that's the best thing I can do if I dont want to be in trouble. I tap Aka's shoulder and ask her through my eyes wether she knows that we have a teacher with us in the bus.

She just shake her head and keep her mouth shut. That goes for all the students as well so I straightened my sitting posture and bow down a little.

Damn thoughts!

The bus driver finally get back to his seat. Same goes to the man who faced the earth spice user outside. Argh! I wasn't able to continue watching through my mirror and now I don't have water to drink as well because I lost control and it spilled outside the bus as well as in my seat.

"poor you"

Aka whispered while letting off her little chuckle.

I just rolled my eyes and wipe the mess.

"we are all good to go now"

the man beside the driver shouted.

"what a boomer-"

"what a boomer-"

Both I and Aka chuckled as we speak at the same time. We're kind of disappointed but thankful as well. Disappointed about not witnessing an actual fight and thankful because our main goal here was to pass the school and enter both the Chamiya School and Chamiya Student House.

The bus started moving once again.

We have to pass through a few more blocks and we'll arrive at the block 20 already.

As we go through the way, students keep showing an awe face that was like as if they've seen something extremely surprising. Out of curiosity, I look outside as well.

"Is this block 24?"

I asked Aka with a voice filled with admiration. I've been here before but today's view was totally different!

"they surely have a lot of time and creative ideas in mind"

Aka stated with an amazed voice as well.

There's a lot of shining things, colours, voices animals, trees and everything you could ever imagine. The place was even more lively!

"They've got one hell of a talent here, look Lie they're just singing but everything's- wow I can't say anything clearly but wow"

Just how strong this people are. No wonder they are in this block. They can expand their spice ability beyond their own blocks, what a very strong energy.

"they're so good, aren't they?"

said by someone behind our seat.

"they have to their best if they want to stay close at the precious market place you know"

replied by someone behind our seat as well.

"stupid labelling"

I murmured.

"hey, there you go again"

Aka held my shoulders and get close to me.

"It's not just about that you know. They're doing this outside today to say goodluck to us and to showcase their spices. They're happy"

She told me. I smiled after hearing that. She knows how voice spice works and to think that they could create something this wonderful and fascinating with just their voice as they sing, I definitely agree with her.

"How come you can't expand your spice that wide Aka?"

I teased her.

"Really? look at the window and see things clearly Lie"

I looked at the window and saw three ladies who's continuously singing but with a very confused face. They're floating towards us and I think that's what Aka was talking about.

Now she's boasting about her ability. I laughed a little.

"stop it already, you're breaking their formation you know"

She laughed and shrugged.

We passed through more people and I must say that, this is the only ride I had wherein I was able to clearly see what the people from the other blocks were doing outside their walls.

It's great. It really is.

How much more if we are not labelled? We could have enjoyed each others company without thinking about who's elite and support.

We could have been each other's support and protector.

As I was having random thoughts, I felt a gaze not to far away from me. I stared at the front of the bus and caught the teacher a while ago starring at me.

"Can't you guys just please stop reading my thoughts? It's just some random thoughts you know. No need to get that serious"

I jokingly murmured.

"what are saying?"

Aka was confused about my random murmur.

"no nothing"

I smiled at her and she just rolled her eyes.

"We're finally here"

someone in the front part of the bus's seat shouted while stretching his hands out.

"woah, that's a lot of students out here"

Aka exclaimed as she fix her face by putting up powder and colours.

"yeah right, there's a lot of them"

I stared outside and saw a lot of students. There are someone and some group who's walking along the street while some are just taking off the bus and their own rides. Our bus stopped right in front of the school and everyone started taking their exit out of the bus.

"now here we go, aren't we Lie?"

Aka asked while looking at the swamp of student ahead of us.

I take a deep breath and held her hand.

"This is our time to shine"

She laughed at the thought

"no girl, no shining please. it's not so pleasing to get too much attention you know"

we laughed if off and walk towards the school entrance.

This is the very first time that we are going to enter block 20 and the blocks beyond it. With this much of students, do we really have a chance?

I looked at Aka. It's funny how she try so hard to look brave when she's actually trembling. This is going to be my first battle and that goes the same for her.

I have no time to be afraid now, I have to get through this if I wish to change something for the better in this crumbled labelling city of Chimiya.
