I gasp, trying to steady my rapidly beating heart. Upon opening my eyes, I quickly realize it was all a dream. A sick joke my subconscious enjoys by throwing me back into a time I’d love to forget.
As my heart rate settles, and my nerves stop shaking, I lift the thick covers and sit up in my cozy bed. Standing up, wincing a little as my feet touch the floor, instinctively expecting it to be cold. I stretch my arms above my head, and shake the sleep from my body.
After quickly using the bathroom, I make my way to the dresser, picking out a pair of jeans and my favorite purple T-shirt for the day ahead. Analyzing the socks, I finally pick up two mismatch ones, one is white with purple hearts and the second is pink with white hearts. I love my socks, I make sure to always have an abundance.
Finally ready for the day to begin, I head down stairs to the kitchen. Quickly putting on a pot of strong coffee, one thing I could never go without. I lean against the counter top, enjoying the drip of the coffee that will soon have energy coursing through my veins.
Taking my coffee mug, I head out through the sliding glass patio doors onto the back porch. Standing silently, sipping on my little cup of goodness, I listen intently to the birds that are also starting the new day. The chirping of these delicate creatures always soothes and calms my soul, their innocence enhancing the warmth that starts all my days.
