Morning Comes With Answers

465 Words
I blink slowly, taking in the light in my tired eyes. Getting up from the couch, I stretch and yawn. Today is going to be a long day. I walk over to my back door, to asses the damage from the night before. Surprisingly, there is nothing there. There are no wolf bodies, and no blood. There is zero evidence that anything happened outside. I rush back to the front door, only to discover, the door is brand new and when I open it, there are no trucks in front of my house. What is going on? I look over at my screen, and see my gate is brand new as well! How did this happen? Did I imagine everything? That can’t be possible. Frustrated and confused, I go upstairs and quickly shower. The only evidence washing down the drain. Stepping out and dressing quickly, I run back down stairs. I search outside, and there’s absolutely nothing. I walk quickly into the tree line, nothing here either! What should I do, I think to myself. Even if I had anyone to ask, they would think I was crazy. I need answers though. I will make a trip into town. I dread going to town, I hate being around people. I’ll make it quick, though. I go to the garage and quickly get into my dark blue Nissan car. Making my way out the gate and down the dirt road, I hesitate only for a minute. I need answers. Driving through town, there’s not a lot of people out today. Good, hopefully this goes smoothly. I go over to the library, it’s pretty big for such a small town. I park my car, and walk into the old building. Making my way over to the receptionist, I ask her to point me towards the lores of shapeshifters. She looks at me funny but, does as I ask. Leaving me to my reading, she goes back to her daily tasks. I start pulling books off the shelf and setting them on the table behind me. Anything that looks old, those will have answers. Once I have five books stacked up, I sit down and start my research. The books are full of pages with old stories. Stories passed down through the generations. Most of them scream fiction but, what else would explain what I endured? I read about vampires, werewolves and witches. The basics. I can’t know what’s real, though. Do vampires really sparkle in the sun? Do wolves really worship the moon? How do I tell? My mind is a jumbled mess. I came here for answers but, all I have are more questions! Time to just go home. I decide to check out the last two books from my pile and read them at home.
