I quickly turn the back porch light on. To my utter shock, no one and nothing is there! Where did the wolf go? Was he even there? Oh gosh, I need to get a grip, and fast. So, I just double, maybe triple, check that the doors are locked. I decided to sleep on the couch tonight, figured I’d reread the last book. Maybe, I’ll find some hidden clues that I didn’t see before. I’m soon dreaming about werewolves and golden eyes. I’m quite enjoying these new dreams, they are not as haunting as the nightmares I’ve gotten accustomed to. As I wake up, I realize the couch was not such a good idea. My back hurts like crazy, my neck is stiff, and I’m starting this day with a headache. Oh well, that’s what I get for poor decisions. I quickly rise to get ready for the day. I might make another trip into town, I’m not sure yet. I shower, dress and of course, get my fill of coffee. I don’t take anything for the aches, I’m not much for pills. I just let my body work it out naturally. I decide to go for a quick walk around the property. Today is so sunny, I didn’t want to miss out. As I slowly walk around the tree line, I get the feeling I’m being watched. I don’t think it’s a menacing presence, as the hairs on the back of my neck are not raised. The birds and small critters are still lively as well. It’s probably just a deer or fox, something that’s more curious than anything. I continue my slow pace around, making it to the big tree in my yard, when I hear someone cough. I quickly turn toward the noise, and discover there are two men and a woman standing behind me, apparently waiting for me to notice them. The first man, was tall, probably about six foot. He has longer brown hair, just covering his ears. He has the most amazingly long eyelashes, and his eyes are a honey color. Is that even possible? How is he this gorgeous? Maybe I’m still dreaming, I reach down and slightly pinch my arm, nope, still there. The second man is a bit rougher looking. He has short blond hair, almost a buzz cut. His crystal blue eyes are very serious and I feel a bit self conscious under his gaze. Unlike the other man, this one has tattoos. He has full sleeves down both his arms. From what I can see, they are tribal of some sort. The woman is just as tall as the men! Gosh! She’s super pretty too! Her long brown hair shimmers a bit, as the sun hits the gentle highlights that flow naturally through it. Her eyes though, are a bit peculiar. She seems to have one brown eye, and one green eye! That’s super cool! Her gaze is much friendlier than her counter parts. The first man coughs slightly, I guess this is his way of dragging my attention back to him. “Hello?” I ask the stranger in my yard. “Yes, hello. Apologies if we startled you. We are here on behalf of our King.”, the man states. As if I know a KING! What? I guess I stood there a little too long in shock because, the woman takes a step forward. “Hi! I’m Carly! That hunk of a man is Jay, and the somber one is Eddie, short for Edward!” she states in a very enthusiastic tone. “Ok, I’m Kit. Can I help you?” I asked her as politely as I could. This is still super strange. “As a matter of fact, yes, you could help us!” Carly exclaimed. “We are here on behalf of the King, he needs your help most of all!” Ok, ok, what is going on? This must be some sham to get me to follow them and kidnap me, right? “Excuse me but, I’ve never met a King. I don’t even know of any here in the states. I think you have the wrong person,” I tell her and slowly I start backing up. I might be able to make it back inside my house if I’m slick enough. “Look,” the blonde one, apparently named Eddie begins. “We won’t harm you, we are not a threat to you, in fact, we’re the opposite. We would lay down our lives for you.” He says this with utter confidence. “Alright, well, I’ll be the judge of all that,” I quickly tell him because, who says stuff like that? Apparently this guy does. “Why don’t we all have a seat, and we can talk, maybe you’d feel a bit more at ease,” Carly is again quick to offer comfort. “Yeah, that’s fine, what could it hurt?” I tell her. I mean, I guess it could hurt me but, what choice do I really have? So, I lead the strangers to my back porch where I have a cute little white circle table, and some wooden chairs with matching white cushions. Everyone takes a seat, and I ask “would anyone like some tea or water, maybe?” All three shake their heads “no”. “Thank you, though,” Jay says politely. “Not a problem, if you change your minds, just ask,” I reply. “Let’s get down to why we’re here,” Eddie is anxious for this “help”, I suppose. I tell him, that’s fine and what “help” could I possibly offer? “Let’s start with the basics, what type of shifter are you, Kit?” Carly asked me. “Um, shifter? I don’t know what you mean, I’m just a human.” I quickly shut her down on that, I’m not that crazy. Jay sits up a little straighter in his seat, “you’re not a shifter? How is that possible?” He seems to be asking the others, as he is looking towards them. Carly looks confused as well, “ok, well we are werewolves.” She says this without a once of humor in her voice. I quickly scan their eyes, looking for any sign of a joke. “If this is some sort of rouse, it isn’t funny,” I tell them all. “Werewolves, and all shifters for that matter, are fictional, not real, just stuff you read in old books and watch in cheesy movies,” I exclaim. Now, they are all staring me down, as if I’ve offended them, or maybe it’s just shock. Eddie is now looking rather annoyed, Carly is very quiet, and Jay, well, he’s now serious. “Kit, we are what we say we are. Don’t you remember a few nights ago, the storm and all the wolves in your yard?” Of course I remember that, how could I possibly forget the bodies? “Yes, I remember that. So, you’re telling me, that was all real? I didn’t imagine it? Why, why were any of you here then? What happened to the fallen wolves? Whose side are you on? The white wolves that broke in, or the other wolves that seemed to come here to protect me?” I knew part of the answer, at least I thought I did. “We are the wolves that protect you, of course!” States Carly, rather dramatically. “The King was here too,” Eddie says, like that tells me anything. Jay clears his throat, getting ready for a long speech I gather.
