Safety is an Illusion

510 Words
I quickly make my way back home. Once safely inside, I get some much needed water. Next, I need a shower, I need to just stop going into the woods. I run upstairs and strip down, turning the shower on, making sure it’s hot. I get in and scrub away the sweat and dirt from today’s adventure. Once satisfied, I get out and get dressed in my pajamas. My green shorts and long grey t-shirt are comfy and make me feel better. I go back downstairs and make myself a cup of hot chocolate, nothing is more relaxing! Quickly, I go and light the fireplace that’s in my living room, and soon I am warm inside and out. My entire body begins to relax as I think over the strange events of the woods. Many questions run through my mind. Why or how did the wolf understand me? How many wolves are out there? Just the two? Where in the heck did the blood go? So many darn questions and zero answers. It frustrates me to no end. I stand and start pacing the room, my mind is a mess. Maybe I’m just imaging all of this. That seems like the most logical explanation. Suddenly, the alarm starts blaring. I rush over to the screen next to the front door. The screen shows three, big black trucks speeding down the dirt trail that leads to my front gate. What is this? Why can’t I just go back to the peace I had before seeing the wolf? I stand there contemplating life when all of sudden, the first truck bashes against and completely through my front gate! What the heck! I rush over to ensure the front door is securely locked, and shut all the lights off, like that will help somehow. The trucks come right up to the front porch, and five huge men get out of each truck. These men are clearly here for evil reasons. The first man to make it onto the steps is big and burly. His dark brown eyes barely visible underneath the oily hair that spills over them. The second man is just as big and terrifying. He has one blue eye and a deep, ragged scar in place of his left eye. I don’t even wait to take note of the others, instead, I run towards the back door. The front door shatters as the men kick it down with a force that vibrates through my bones. I reach the sliding door just in time and throw it open, rushing out. What is my plan? I run down the steps, only to freeze in my tracks when I come face to face with the giant, black wolf. I take a step back from its snarling teeth, and realize, my backyard now has twenty plus wolves standing, and snarling in it. The black wolf stops snarling at me and shakes its head. I don’t understand. Then it walks forward and pushes me aside. Resuming its snarling once I’m no longer in front of it.
