Helen waited until the two policemen had gone. She was unsettled by what the inspector had told them about Sean and Kieran.
‘Are you telling me the truth, Terry?’
Terry looked at her. She could see a scared little boy looking back at her, and wondered whether it was her he was afraid of or the implication that he might be in danger.
‘Honey, if either of them were doing this drug stuff, it’s news to me. Dad didn’t say anything about it to me. I swear, I didn’t know anything about it until they told us just then.’
Helen was inclined to believe him but was still angry that he hadn’t suspected anything, especially about all the money going to and from the races.
