With Nina being mobile enough to take care of herself, Carl returned to work. In the month that he had been away from the office, the team had made no progress on locating Clare or Alicia Maria Brown, as they now knew her to be. It appeared that she had disappeared without a trace.
Despite all their reviewing of CCTV recordings from the bus station, the railway station and the airport, all the public portals to interstate travel, they had not come up with a positive sighting of her.
No record of anyone resembling her description renting a car had surfaced either, but Carl was wary of that outcome, as car rental firms were not required to maintain photographic records, and CCTV was not common in their offices.
