Darlene fetched a first-aid kit to dress his wounds. She dabbed disinfectant fluid on his swollen cheek, her touch soft. "Does it hurt?" The sight made Zachary dizzy. The last time he'd been badly injured, Darlene had bandaged him up just like this, asking the same gentle question. "It doesn't hurt." Zachary held her hand, his eyes falling shut. "It's my fault.
