Chapter 14 As Lathwi climbed past the ladder’s last rung and into the sunlit loft, an electric thrill quickened her pulse. At long last, she was back to her old self! She bugled once to celebrate her return, then again simply because once was not enough. Her jubilee brought Liselle to the foot of the ladder at a record speed. “What’s the matter?” she shouted. “Should I call the physician back? He only left a moment ago, he can’t have gone far.” “I do not wish to see that sour gas-bladder ever again,” Lathwi replied. Then, because she wanted Liselle to go away, she added, “Do not worry, I am well. I will be down soon.” Liselle hmphed, then grudgingly abandoned her post. Her receding footsteps gratified Lathwi.
