The next day, I woke up a bit late since the club closed late due to the influx of people the night before. I fixed my bed and went about my morning routine. After completing my chores, I returned to bed and searched for my cell phone.
My expression changed as I saw no messages or calls from Amer. I quickly tapped the keys on my cell phone to call him, waiting for several minutes before he answered.
"Amer, why did it take you so long to answer my call?" I complained.
I heard the twins' voices in the background before Amer spoke, "Wait, Fay, we're still busy. We're having bonding time; don't ruin it."
"Hey! I'm the mother of those two. If something bad happens to my twins, you'll forget that we're friends, Amer!" I said angrily.
I didn't know what he was doing with the twins and why they hadn't tried to contact me. I knew Amer was saying things to them, and with that gossip-loving gay friend, he'd surely tell them something about Rihav. I would make him punished.
"I know that girl, there you go again, too much stress. Relax, you have a heart condition." He said before bursting into laughter. I rolled my eyes immediately at his remarks.
"Is that mom, Ninang Amera?" I heard Hera ask on the other line.
I couldn't help but smile upon hearing her voice. It had only been a day since we last saw each other, but I had already missed them both—Hera and Hacov. Since they turned three last year, I never spent a day apart from them. I made sure not to stay overnight anywhere without them so we could sleep together.
Now, I am sacrificing a lot to provide them with a good life. I don't want the day to come when they would choose Rihav over me if we happen to meet again. It's not impossible, especially since he's here in Isla Fera, a world we both inhabit.
"Yes, baby girl, it's your mom. Do you want to talk to her?" Amer said on the other line.
"Hello, Mom! It's Hera. I miss you, Mom. Ninang Amera said it would still be a long time before you come home because you're looking for Pap—" Hera's sentence was interrupted by Amer's reprimand on the other line.
"Hera!" Amer exclaimed, earning a chuckle from me.
"Oops, sorry godmother. It's not allowed to lie, Mom said. It's bad, and you'll go to hell, godmother." Hera innocently explained.
I heard Amer laugh at what Hera said. It's amazing how the child already knows that lying is wrong. I felt guilty; here I was, lying to them about their real father.
"Mom, are you still there? Mom, mom."
"Yes, Hera, Mom is still here. What is my princess doing over there?" I lovingly said.
"Mom, aren't my brother and I turning four soon? We want to go to the mall in La Fera Dos because we never went around there before." Hera said cutely.
Their birthday is coming up next month, which might explain why I've noticed Hera becoming a bit more talkative lately and no longer stumbling in her words. It's been almost five years since I last talked to their father. How am I going to tell my two children the truth about their father? That they won't see their father anymore? That they are his illegitimate children...
It's like someone drew in my heart to think of my last thought. The two will be hurt when I tell them that, especially since this Amer gives them hope of seeing their father. In the end they will also be hurt, but now they are still young, they are not able to process such events.
"We can prepare a celebration at La Meyanda, Hera. Remember you told me you wanted to taste the doughnuts? I'll buy you and Hacov a lot of doughnuts." I suggested.
Even though I really want to bring them here to show them the beauty of La Fera city, Rihav is here. Even if they meet, he would immediately know they are his children because of their eye color and the striking resemblance between Hacov and him.
"Mom, Obet said there's something called..." Hera paused, pretending to think, “What’s that, god mom? The place with lots of games?" She needed Amer's backup.
"Arcade, baby girl."
"that's it, Arcade." Hera effortlessly said the last word.
She really wasn't stuttering anymore. Between the two of them, she was the first to pronounce a word, and that word was 'tata' because her twin had a grip on her.
"Mommy Hera will think about it. For now, mom will stay here so you have something to play within the Arcade. Once I make a decision, okay?"
"Okay, mom. Thank you. I miss you... mom, Havoc is grabbing the cellphone from me... I'm not done yet, Kuya Hacov." It seemed like they were already arguing on the other line.
"Give it to your brother first, Hera. It seems like he has something to say."
I heard Hera's complaint before I heard Hacov's voice greeting me.
"What's up, Hacov?" I asked.
"Mom, why aren't you coming home? I'm not used to not sleeping beside you, Mom. Good thing God mom is here."
Even Hacov was joining the 'god mom' party; it seemed like he really had something to tell. He used to call her 'godfather,' so why 'godmother now? OH BOY, AMER.
"I'm working, Hacov. Mom is saving up for the cell phone you want, right? I'll buy it for you on your and Hera's birthdays." I said in a sweet tone.
"Mom, I don't want a cell phone anymore. I just want you here. Please come back. I won't ask for anything as long as you come back." I could feel the longing in his voice.
They really weren't used to me not being by their side. Even I wasn't, but I had to do this.
"Hacov, it's not possible yet. Maybe next week, I'll come there or maybe..." I hesitated, wondering if I should bring them here or not. I tightened my grip on my cellphone and closed my eyes. "How about this, on your birthday, you both come here to play at Hera's arcade." I suggested and took a deep breath.
I had no choice but to settle for that. I couldn't leave my job; the salary I get is substantial, and I would lose it if I took a break. That was the only solution, to bring them here.
"Mom, that's still far. I want to sleep beside you."
It was difficult for me to speak. "Hacov, Mom also wants to sleep beside you, but I need to work. Mom also misses you; for now, sleep beside Amer."
Hacov sighed on the other end of the line, and I could feel his sadness even without seeing his face. "Just come back here, Mom."
"Yes, Hacov, Mom will return, and I'll sleep beside you again."
With a 'yes,' Hacov said goodbye before he returned the cell phone to Amer. I reminded Amer to take care of them and warned him not to involve Rihav in their conversations. The gay guy promised not to say anything, but I still wasn't a hundred percent convinced that he wouldn't say anything to the two about Rihav.
Amer said his goodbyes, and I lowered my cell phone after hearing a knock on my bedroom door. I adjusted my clothes before standing up to open it for Farah.
As I fully opened the door, I was surprised to see Sean holding two bags from a well-known food chain. He was smiling while showing me the food he brought.
"How did you get here?" I asked.
"I used the elevator, and I walked to come here," he replied, being his usual philosophical self, making me rolled my eyes.
He was still the same Sean I knew from our college days, the philosophical Sean. If he wasn't my friend, I might have smacked him by now. It's a good thing he helped me last night, or else he might have received a harsher welcome.
"Really wow."
"Fay, I'm serious. You ask a question, and when I answer, you're going to act all sassy? That's not allowed, Fay," he said.
I narrowed my eyes, trying not to hurt him.
"And, can you please stop calling me Sean? Call me Semon instead," he said as he entered my room.
"Why?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Back in college, he never complained about his name. Why does he suddenly want to be called Semon now?
"Cause Sean sounds like a baby name, and I'm not a baby, Fay. While Semon sounds like a matured name, and hell yeah, I'm matured," he argued.
"That actually came out of your mouth, Sean." I said and laughed.
Sean, acting all baby-like, claiming he's matured. It's funny because back then, we had a little disagreement over a plate of spring roll I finished. He never mentioned that I was going save spring roll for him, so I ate all of it. I used to cook spring roll for him just to make up and be friends again.
"Stop laughing, Fay," he said in a deep voice.
"Okay, Semon," I emphasized his name with a playful tone.
He just nodded before he started listing and taking out the food from the plastic bags. If the twins were here, they would surely love this. The last time they brought something like this, they enjoyed it a lot. Maybe once I have enough money, I'll treat them to meals like this.
I sat in front of Sean, and we started eating together. He mentioned that he intentionally skipped breakfast and lunch so we could eat together. Sweet and caring, that's Sean. He used to be quite the heartthrob back in college. But I don't know if he has a girlfriend now.
I refrained from asking about his love life. I didn't want to end up talking about Rihav.
"Tell me about your twins, Fay. Do they resemble Rihav? If they do, you're in deep trouble when he sees them."
I almost choked on my food when Sean said that. He quickly grabbed the soft drinks that came with his order and handed it to me. I took a sip until my throat felt better.
"Sean, seriously!" I said, hitting his hand.
"Semon," he corrected.
"I don't know about you!" I rolled my eyes and continued eating.
I saw him smiling, so I rolled my eyes at him again. I thought he was supposed to be a mature Semon now, but it looks like he's still playing with me.
"Tell me, Fay, if the twins really resemble Rihav, you won't have any escape from that crazy guy after their first meeting."
"What?" I repeated, pausing in my eating.
"Never mind. Where do the twins resemble Rihav? Tell me so we can keep them away from him." He even touched my hand as he said that.
I looked at Sean, eye to eye, before finally speaking, "Same eye color. Hacov is a carbon copy of him, and Hera has his sharp nose."
I confessed, hoping he might help me. Even though Sean refused to talk about it, I knew he had many connections around him, and I felt the sincerity behind his playful personality.
"You're really in trouble, Fayre," he said, grinning.
"You i***t!" I exclaimed and playfully punched him.
