“ You have a wonderful home sir , thank you for inviting me to dinner “ , I said while shaking hands with General Marcus Domino .
“ You are welcome to my home” he said gruffly.
General Marcus Domino used to be in the army but has to retire due to an injury to his legs that left him with a limp. After his early retirement he started up a paint manufacturing factory which I was interested in buying and was the reason why I was having dinner with him and his family. I was quite lucky that he had agreed to see me and even invite me to dinner, other prospective buyers were dismissed out rightly.
He was seated at the head of the dining table , a lady seated to his right and by the bar was his grandson Christopher, we had met at the factory the few times I had been by to see the General. I think he disliked me because every time we saw there was a frown on his face , maybe the idea that I wanted to buy the factory didn’t go down well with him .
The side door opened to reveal two beautiful ladies , at the sight of the second lady my heart stopped for a second and resumed beating faster .
What was she doing here ? I couldn’t believe that she was right here in this room . I had searched for her every day and everywhere but she seemed to have disappeared after that night into thin air.
She looked more beautiful than the one time I had seen her , I couldn’t believe my luck.
“ These are my granddaughters, Lillian and Alicia “ , the general said indicating who was which.
So her name was Lillian, no wonder I couldn’t find her after that night she had given me a false name.
“ Nice to meet you both” , I said shaking their hands , I lingered a little longer when I held her hand .
“ This is Callum Marc , he’s a client “ , the General said introducing me .
Everyone took their seats at the table , while the housekeeper served the meal .
I glanced at her again to see that she had been staring at me also , it seemed she remembered me also .
We had met about two years ago in a club at Vegas , she was seated by the bar all by herself when I walked up to her offering to buy her a drink . We got talking , danced a little and then by an unspoken agreement we headed to my hotel room.
When I had asked for her name in the elevator, she told me her name was Ruby . Clothes were removed immediately we walked through the door , I had a pleasurable night that I still hadn’t forgotten. When I woke up to find her gone with no traces , I was surprised because I was normally the one who disappeared in the morning not the other way round . I had tried searching for her even hired a private investigator but considering the fact that I knew she gave me a false name that won’t have been possible.
The General and I moved into his study to talk while everyone moved to the sitting room.
“ Have a seat while I prepare something for us to drink” the General indicated for me to sit while he went to the bar . His study was tastefully furnished, there were two pictures behind his seat. In one of the pictures he was dressed in full military wear while in the second picture he stood behind a lady who was seated with two teenage boys by her side .
From the information I had gathered, he was a widower and had lost his two sons a few years back . There were no pictures of his grandchildren in the study, there were shelves piled high with books , it seemed he loved to read .
“ Why do you want to buy my paint factory ? “ , he asked abruptly without turning around to look at me while he prepared the drinks.
This was the first time he was being the first person to mention the sale of the factory in our conversations.
“ Apart from the fact that it’s a good investment, I’ve always been fascinated with colors, paints and I think this will be a good avenue to do that “ , I replied honestly.
He gave a nod of his head and downed his drink in one sip .
“ You seemed fascinated with my granddaughter, Lillian, have you guys met before ? “
I was lost for words, I didn’t think that anyone noticed my constant staring at her .
“She’s beautiful, takes after her grandmother my wife “ , he commented.
“ Yes sir , she’s beautiful . She … uhm .. reminded me of someone I know . That’s all” , I replied.
By the time we came out of the study, everyone had gone except Christopher , who it seemed was waiting for the General.
I got home feeling light hearted, it looked like the General was seriously considering selling out to me . Purchasing the paint factory would be a big plus to my company , I couldn’t wait to tell Drake my partner and elder brother.
Seeing Lillian today was one of the highlights of my evening, now that I knew who she was and where to find her , nothing was going to stand in my way . She had made a lasting impression on me, Drake had said it was just s*x when I confided in him but I knew it was more than that.
There was something about her that struck a chord in me , that night she looked so vulnerable while we sat at the bar drinking, I needed to know more about her . The sound of my phone jarred me awake from my thoughts, it was my brother calling .
“Hey bro ! How did the dinner go ? “ , Drake always went straight to the point when it came to business, there was no mincing words with him .
“ Everything went well although we didn’t talk much about business . I think he’s still considering it but we’ll keep our fingers crossed “ I said in reply.
“ That’s good , I’m trusting that you can handle this “ , said Drake .
“ Yeah , I’m on it . You won’t believe who I met at the dinner “ , I said excitedly .
“ Who ? Someone I know ? “
“ Not really, the girl from Vegas last year that I talked to you about “
“ Really ? What was she doing having dinner with the General? “
“ She’s the General’s granddaughter, can you believe it ? I was shocked “
“ Wow ! That’s surprising “
“I’m so happy that I finally found her , this has to be fate because what are the odds that I’ll meet her at dinner with the General “
“ I know that you are happy to see your old fling but don’t ruin this by thinking with the head between your legs instead of the one on your neck . We need to be on the General’s good side not the other side “ , Drake said deflating my bubble of excitement.
“ I’m not stupid , I won’t do anything to ruin this deal . It’s also important to me as well that the General agrees to sell to us “
“ I gotta go , Adeline is calling for me “ , he said rushing off .
No matter Drake said I was still going to take my chance on Lillian and I wasn’t going to ruin this deal .
