It’s been a week since the dinner and seeing Callum Marc who also happened to be the person who was interested in purchasing the factory. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that my grandfather was thinking of selling the factory, the factory was his life , it had kept him busy and sane when he lost both of his children.
My grandfather had bought the factory and managed it with basic knowledge, when my father graduated from college he took up modernizing and making necessary changes to make it what it was today.
I wasn’t involved in the running and day to day business of the factory but I was a silent partner, I had my boutique to run but I didn’t think it was a good idea for grandpa to sell the factory.
“” Excuse me boss , a call just came in that our orders have arrived at the warehouse “ , my assistant Claire said .
“ Alright, once I’m done here I’ll head there immediately “ , I said while jotting down in my notes . I was doing the inventory for the month and I didn’t like what I was seeing .
My business was about a year old and our account was still in the red , sales was not increasing even our social media account wasn’t growing. I was thinking of investing more in marketing, maybe that’ll help us .
I went into my office to pick up my bag , after picking up the package I’ll be having lunch at Alicia’s restaurant. She wanted me to try out a new recipe that she had made , anything she made was good and I was happy to be her chief tester ..
Due to a delay in picking up my package, I arrived late to the restaurant, the lunch crowd had thinned out with only few people left inside.
I waved at her assistants who were tidying and walked through to the back where I was sure to find Alicia.
“ Hey cuz , sorry I’m late “ , I said in greeting while holding her in a warm embrace . She smelled of spices and food, today she was dressed in a black chef’s shirt with matching pants and her hair was wrapped under a colorful scarf .
“ Hello , how is your day going ? “
“ It’s going quite fine , just that business is still slow. I’m thinking of a way to drive sales and increase our turnover because the books are still in red “
“ Remember that influencer that came to the restaurant when we first opened, I’ll link you guys up so that she can come around , probably do a video and shout out . It’ll work wonders for you “
“ I think I like that idea , please do that fast so that she can come around as quickly as possible”
“ Sure thing , let’s move to my office so that you can try out the new recipes “
I was settling on the couch to a new episode of Tyler Perry’s series Sistas when my phone began ringing, it was an unknown number . I let it ring because I didn’t take calls from numbers that I didn’t know , it stopped and I continued scrolling to find the channel where the movie was being aired when the phone began ringing again .
I reluctantly picked up because it seemed the person was determined to keep calling till I picked up .
“ Hello “
There was silence at the other end which was creepy because who calls someone with no intention to talk.
“ Hello , I’m going to hang up if you don’t say anything right now “ , I said already getting upset.
“ Please don’t hang up , it’s me “ , came the voice from the other end , the voice sounded familiar but I couldn’t remember where I had heard it .
“ I do believe you have a name gentleman “
“ Callum Marc, I’m the one speaking “
How on earth did he get my number ? I honestly thought he didn’t remember me or he just wanted to act like he didn’t know me .
“ How did you get my number and why are you calling me ? “
“ I have my ways of getting what I want and that’s no way to be talking to an old friend, my darling “ he replied smugly.
“ I’m not your friend and if this is about what happened that night , I do believe that we are both adults and we can move past it “ , I replied gritting my teeth .
“We are adults quite alright, which is why I would like you to have dinner with me . Say this weekend by 8 , I’ll come pick you up “
“ You really do have guts , I won’t be having dinner with you now or ever so please lose my number and don’t ever call me again “ , I replied angrily as I hung up on him .
What was it with men always being arrogant, I was tired of men trying to dictate my life and what I do . The nerve of him ordering me about, he sure was proud .
My phone began ringing again, it seemed he didn’t understand what I said earlier. I picked up the phone to give him a piece of my mind but when I looked at the caller ID , it was the private investigation agency that was calling. My heart skipped a bit , fingers crossed I picked up the call .
“ Hello , P. I James speaking “ , came the voice from the other side .
“ Hi , I’ve been waiting to hear from you . Any updates ? “
“ Yes , we finally got a lead which we are following. We are not sure if it’s her yet but I’ll keep you updated as we progress “
“ Alright , thank you very much and please keep me updated. I want to know as soon as there is a new development “
“ We surely will , good night ma’am “ .
I slumped back on the couch no longer in the mood to see the movie any longer , I emptied my glass and refilled it . It seemed I was going to empty the entire bottle tonight so that I could sleep properly, every time the private investigator called with a new information, the fear of the unknown took over .
I wanted her to be found but what if she wasn’t found and if she was found, what was the next step for me .
This thoughts kept swirling about my mind even as I finally lay down to sleep.
