Daniel leaned back against the battered desk, arms crossed, his gaze unreadable.
“You think you’re playing a game you can win,” he said. “You’re not.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened. “We have the ledger. We have proof.”
Daniel snorted. “Proof means nothing against men like William.”
Evelyne narrowed her eyes. “Then tell us what does.”
Daniel sighed, rubbing a hand down his face.
“You’re not just up against William,” he said. “You’re up against an entire system.”
