Amber woke to find the bed empty of Kade and Rian placing a plate of food on a small table near the bed. “Where’s Kade?”
“Watching Brigitte’s castle.”
Yawning, Amber stumbled out of bed. “What time is it?”
“After the middle of the day.”
“Why didn’t someone wake me?” She gathered her clothes for the day as well as her weapons and the caged Pliethin that had been lying beside the bed, checking on all those she had ties with. Including Serrk. He remained motionless in the dungeon.
“You needed the sleep and you will have plenty of time to return to Brigitte’s castle before sunset.” Rian nodded towards the food. “I’ll leave you to dress and eat. Call me once you are done and I’ll give you my report.” He strode from the room.
Amber glared after Rian, tempted to call him back. What report?
