The morning sun looked through the trees as Liah rushed to complete her errands. Her hands were crude from scouring, her muscles throbbing from the vast errands that had been made to do since day break.
But, she worked rapidly, determined by the hope of the one piece of the day she anticipated — school.
Liah cleared the sweat off of her temple as she at last finished the remainder of her morning chores.
The Alpha's mate still had not returned, however Liah wasn't going to sit around idly and risk having another argument.
She got away from the house, her heart easing up with each step that took her farther from the harsh climate of the Iron Claws' region.
The school she went to was known as the “School of Shadows”, a name that fit the school well.
It was a dull, premonition building settled profound inside the forests, its stone walls canvassed in crawling ivy.
The school was a place of brutal discipline, where the brave or the cunning flourished. For Liah, it was likewise a position of torture, where different wolves tortured her for her lowborn status.
As Liah moved toward the entry, she prepared herself for what was to come. Different students were at that point in little gatherings, their eyes watching as she moved close. They murmured behind their hands, their voices dribbling with malignance.
"Look who it is, the little slave girl,"
One of them jeered as Liah strolled by.
"I don't even know why they let the low borns go to school it’s not like they are going to ever be anything other than slaves”.
Liah's heart fixed, yet she held her head down, disregarding the insults. She had since a long time ago discovered that there was no use in retaliating; it would just escalate the situation. All things being equal, she centered around the one splendid spot in her day — the possibility of seeing her friend, May.
May was sitting by tree waiting for her close to the school's entry, her face illuminating when she saw Liah approach. Like Liah, May was a war orphan, taken by an another wolf house inside the Iron Claw’s pack. Their common past had bonded them, and they had turned into each other’s shelter in a world that was set to break them.
"Liah!"
May called out, waving her over.
"I saved you a seat."
Liah grinned, her prior strain dissolving ceaselessly as she joined her companion.
"Thank you, May. this is perfect."
They entered the school together, disregarding the virus gazes that followed them. When inside, they tracked down their standard spot at the rear of the homeroom.
It was an unwritten law that decided that the low borns sat toward the back, away from the more special wolves who guaranteed the best seats at the front.
As the day's examples started, Liah found it more straightforward to concentrate with May adjacent to her.
Notwithstanding the difficulties, she was glad to be here, away from the drudgery of her everyday errands.
School was a test, yet it was likewise an opportunity to learn, to develop, and in particular, to spend time with May.
During the break between classes, Liah rested close to May, her voice dropping to a murmur.
"I can hardly hold on until the end of the final examinations are over,"
she admitted.
"I've been thinking… perhaps after they're finished, I'll take off. Turn into a Rogue."
May's eyes enlarged in alert.
"Liah, you’re joking right?, because if you get caught, you know what'll happen, They will not just punish you — they'll kill you."
"I know,"
Liah murmured back, her heart hustling at the idea.
"However, I can't remain here all my life May. I would gladly choose death than carry on with my life like this."
May's appearance mellowed, however there was dread in her eyes.
"It makes perfect sense to me, Liah. Believe me it does, but running away….it's so dangerous . You'd be isolated out there. No pack, no protection. It's capital punishment."
Liah looked around to ensure no other person was tuning in prior to answering,
"I'm not saying I'll do it, it's simply a thought. I'm so worn out on this life, May. I need something else, something mine."
May moaned, shaking her head.
"Simply promise me you'll thoroughly consider it. If it's not too much trouble. I do not want to lose you."
"I promise"
Liah said, however the fire of disobedience actually burned in her chest. The prospect of opportunity, of at long last being in charge of her own life, was intoxicating.
In any case, she knew May was correct it was a gamble, and a dangerous one at that.
For now, she would zero in on her examinations, on making do until the last, most important tests were finished. After that… she would choose.
