Chapter 3

1322 Words
Right now, I'm on my way to school, like other days, but first I have to make a quick stop at Hannah's place, before I continue my journey to school. I have no problem with making as many stops as possible, as far as I'm enjoying Tulum's warm scenery in the process. Shockingly, when I come down from the bus, at the bus stop by her house, I notice Jeff's Blue Sedan parked outside. "He told me he was out of town a few days back, so what's his car doing here." I ask myself. Deciding not to let it get to me, I head toward the house, almost reaching the door when he rushes out, almost bumping into me, and looking rather disoriented. "Oh... Lisa... what are you doing here?" He asks. "Don't you think I should be asking the questions here?" I respond sternly. "I thought u said you were out of town?" I promised myself I wouldn't lose my cool, but for some reason, I kept feeling even more and more pissed off. I think seeing your boyfriend at your friend's place will do that to you. "You can't be here, okay... You have to go now." He replies, without making eye contact with me. Instead, he looks left and right like someone is out to get him. I had never seen him like this and seeing him this way takes away all my pent-up rage. "Wait, what about Hannah?" I inquire, trying to get past him in the process, but he keeps blocking my path. "My time is up... I can't be here... I have to get out of here." Jeff says, pushing me out of the way (thank the stars I don't fall down). He then hurries to his car, leaving me puzzled and in need of answers. Sadly, he never makes it to his car; a few steps to his car, a black Challenger pulls up from the corner, which he seems to recognize. He suddenly stops running towards his car and starts running away from it; then the car's windows slide down. As everything plays out, I watch, not knowing what to do, plus for some reason, it's all in slow motion. From the second he starts running towards me, until he gets shot various times in the back by the person in the passenger seat of the Challenger and drops on the pavement. As soon as he drops, the universe returns to normal speed. I'm standing here, not knowing what to do, with my legs quacking, fixed to a spot and the lifeless body of my boyfriend right in front of me. ------------------- News of Jeff's murder spread fast, which doesn't surprise me at all. Firstly, it's Tulum, a peaceful place where no one would expect something like this to happen. Secondly, he was a handsome young adult with lots of potential, the son of Tulum's Head of Police, and he really looked like he was going to be class valedictorian. He was Tulum's golden boy and people like him don't usually die via drive-by shooting. Something shady is going down, Jeff's killers are out there, yet I'm confined to a prison cell like I did something wrong. According to the officer who came to read me my rights a few minutes back, Jeff wasn't the only body at the scene. Hannah has also been murdered. I think Jeff did it, but for some reason, they are accusing me of having something to do with both murders. Me?! Nevertheless, I can tell the cops are saying more than they already know, especially his father, the Head of Police. Unknown to me, in his office, he sits troubled, resting on his table with his hands interlocked. He was anxious, not sad, not angry, just anxious and the knocks on his door only raised his BP level even more. "Come in." He ordered, while leaving one hand on his desk, as he reached for a gun with his other hand. He soon eases up when the visitor that walks into his office is a friendly face, some man in all black and long hair, like Keanu Reeves from The Matrix. "Welcome Mr X, I'm glad you could make it on short notice." He started, before the men handshake and he continues firmly. "I know you've heard what happened to my son... " "And I know you have an innocent young lady in custody, blaming her for murders she didn't commit." Said Mr X, completing his statement for him. Is this man going to speak on my behalf and help me get out of here? Hell no! Instead, he congratulates the corrupt Head of Police for tying up loose ends. "You did well Todd, now all we have to do is make sure things stay how they are, with her as the only suspect in both cases." He says. "Nevertheless, while you cover up the real truths, I'll go after the Yoko Mafia scum that murdered your son." Wow, another Mafia; astonishing right? Nah, not really. You see, after the Third Mafia War, most of the older crime families folded up. The ones that didn't, grew stronger along with the new bloods that started to spring up at the time. The Yoko Mafia is one of the new bloods, but I don't even know about them yet. Chief Todd is well aware of their existence and his son's business with them that led to his early demise. What can I say, victim turned prime suspect, all because he never liked me and I don't really have anyone to fight for me. It'll take my aunt a while to know I'm missing, they haven't let me make a phone call yet and it looks like they don't want to give me that chance. I'm sitting here, praying to God that I get home by the end of the day, when I notice Mr X talking to the warden guarding my cell. I don't know who he is yet, but he smells like trouble, I don't like trouble and my instincts are telling me to find a way out of this cell. Maybe my body thinks I'm in some romance novel. "Well, it's not, body! So, calm down!" ------------------- Elsewhere, in DC specifically, at the Diablo Mafia Headquarters, a young hottie is enjoying an afternoon swim when a guard comes to get him. "The Baron demands your presence." He says in a soldier-like stance. "What does the old man want?" The hottie retorts, without getting out of the pool. "He says it's important; old business that has come back, which needs to be settled." He replies, maintaining his stance. "Dang it, just when I was starting to enjoy my swim." He declares with a grin, stepping out of the pool like he owns the world, and then drying himself with a towel. On his muscular frame are various marks, making him look even more masculine. His hair, is curly, just like the Baron's, but short, however, what makes him stand out the most are his silver pupils resting in his 24/7 sleepy eyes. Once dry, he puts on a bathrobe and strolls through the guards-filled hallway, into the Baron's room, where the old man sat on his bed, waiting for him. Upon entering he bows to show respect, not getting up until the old man permits him to rise. "A guard said you called for me Baron, but you didn't have to do so." The hottie started, trying his best not to laugh. "You could have simply sent me a file with the name of the person I'm to terminate and their details." To his surprise, the old man silently got up, walked over to his reading table, picked up a file and pointed it at the hottie. "It's not who you'll kill, my boy; but who you'll rescue." He clarifies. "Save? Father, what do you mean to save?"
