676 Words
“Good day Lord Lance” I say as I practice my speech for my meeting with Lord Lance “Good day, my lady” I assume he shall say. “What a fine day it is?” I continue “It sure is” “May I offer you some---” I stop as I realized a voice responded. I turn to the direction the voice is. My eyes widen, Lord Lance in the flesh. “Why have you stopped?” He inquires as he steps towards me. I stepped back as he stepped towards me. “I¬—I a-am s- sorry” “Sorry? For what? I am the one to say sorry for I have interrupted your rehearsal” He smiles as he apologize. “My apologies” He sates my worries. “I am sorry. I am a-afraid I had not h-hear your arrival” I apologized also. If only, I wasn’t so engross in rehearsal then I would have welcome him. “Do not worry. I can be sneaky” “Please sit, lord lance” I offered him. “Thank you so much. How are you?” He sat close to me and I blush at the close contact. “I am fine” “That is good to hear. I always want my lad fine and healthy” He said and kisses my hand. I blush at his words and gesture. ……………………….. The conversation between Lord Lance and I last long and well. He invited me to his residence. He also suggested that we could ride horse and have a picnic. I have been smiling since as I recount the visit between lord lance and I. I feel so giddy. Ma approved of the visit and I shall visit him next week. Aurora says nothing and I am baffled. For the first time, she made no acknowledgment as we made preparations for the visit. I went for different fittings before I saw the right dress. It was subtle but also embraces my curves elegantly. Father sent a letter from America to congratulate me. It felt so nice. It is been long since father sent a letter to me. He frequently sends to aurora and Ma but rarely me. It seems like he avoids me and I wonder why. I miss father so much but after mother’s demise, he suddenly disappeared and is rarely home. He relocates to America after marrying Ma and claimed that he is busy with expanding his business. To make myself happy, I went to the enormous library we had in the house. Before mother’s demise, I usually read here and often mother, father and I will read about the current situation as well as proffer solution. Mother and I will also help father with his work. We would solve any problem arising in the workplace. Sigh! I immensely miss those times. Taking my mind off memories, I place the newspaper in front of me and read the current affairs in the country. “How many times do I have to tell you that reading the newspaper is unladylike?” Ma snatches the newspaper in front of me. I became startled as I heard no footstep of hers. ‘When did she enter’ I question myself. “My dear, how many times do I have to tell you that spacing out is rude and that is not what a lady does” She corrects “I am sorry ma. I was just wondering when you—”I was cut off by Ma “Shush! Get ready for dinner.” “Yes Ma” “Also don’t dare be late. Your sister is hungry. I am sure you don’t want your sister to be hungry for too long, my dear.” She warns. A few days ago, I was late and poor Aurora was left hungry that she was at the brink of fainting. “Okay ma” I said as I round up my activity. I quickly dress up for dinner and rushed down.
