Lucien woke to chaos. The world around him was blurry, the edges of reality jagged and distorted. His head throbbed, and his chest felt tight as if a weight was pressing down on him. Slowly, painfully, he opened his eyes.
The room was in ruins. The explosion had done its damage. The walls were scorched, debris scattered everywhere, and smoke filled the air. Aiden was kneeling next to him, his hand on Lucien’s shoulder, shaking him gently.
"Lucien, stay with me," Aiden urged, his voice low and urgent.
Lucien blinked, his vision slowly clearing. "Aiden... What happened?"
"You were knocked out. We need to get out of here," Aiden said, his voice clipped with urgency. He helped Lucien to his feet, his hand steady as it guided Lucien toward the exit.
But Lucien was still shaken. He couldn't get the image of Elysia's smug expression out of his mind. She had known something. She had planned this. But how? Why? The questions swirled in his mind, but he didn’t have time to answer them now.
They stumbled into the hallway, only to find themselves surrounded by more guards, armed and ready. The door at the far end of the corridor was still open, but there was no escape—not yet.
"Dammit," Lucien muttered, his hand going for his gun, but Aiden stopped him.
"No. We need to find Elysia. She's the key to everything," Aiden said, his voice cold. There was no hesitation in his tone. They both knew the truth: Elysia held the answers they needed, the answers that would unravel everything. The conspiracy. The lies. Everything.
They fought their way through the building, each step a battle, but they were getting closer. Closer to the truth.
Finally, they reached the control room once again, but this time, the door was wide open. Lucien stepped in first, his gun raised, but what he saw nearly knocked the breath from his chest.
Elysia was standing at the center of the room, but she wasn’t alone. Beside her was Mia.
"Mia?" Lucien’s voice cracked with disbelief.
Mia, the woman he thought he could trust, the one who had been by his side for so long, looked at him with a mixture of guilt and resignation.
"I’m sorry, Lucien," she said softly. "I never wanted this. But I had no choice."
Elysia smiled wickedly, her arms crossed over her chest. "It was always Mia. She’s the one who led you here. The one who pulled the strings. And now, it’s too late."
Lucien’s world seemed to tilt. Mia had betrayed him? The woman he had shared everything with, the one who had been his confidante, his ally—she had been working for Elysia all along?
"You’re lying," Lucien growled, the disbelief evident in his voice. "Mia would never..."
"I had no choice," Mia said, her voice breaking. "I was forced into this. You have to understand, Lucien."
But Lucien couldn’t understand. The betrayal was too much. It burned like fire in his veins, his emotions a confusing whirlwind of hurt, anger, and disbelief.
Aiden stepped forward, his voice colder than Lucien had ever heard it. "You’ve been playing us from the start, Mia. Using us to get to Elysia’s empire. You’ve been manipulating Lucien, lying to him, all for what?"
Mia’s eyes filled with tears, but she didn’t answer.
Elysia’s voice cut through the silence. "It doesn’t matter anymore. You’ve all been part of the plan, and now, it’s time to finish what we started."
Suddenly, the room shook again, and Lucien knew it wasn’t over. Elysia had one final trick up her sleeve. But they weren’t going to let her win. Not now. Not after everything they had sacrificed.
With a final, desperate burst of energy, Lucien and Aiden charged at Elysia, a storm of fury and revenge. This was the endgame, and they weren’t going down without a fight.
