Chapter Twenty One: The BridgeIn the relative safety of a thickly wooded copse, the four mice were changed back to their normal forms. For a minute or so they sat, shielded from the world by gorse and ferns, in stunned recovery. Occasionally a nose twitched or a hand went, paw-like, for non-existent whiskers. They had come so far, but were now unarmed in the middle of enemy territory, and almost certainly the subject of a massive man-hunt. Fighting hard to pull himself out of his stupor, Paylen looked from face to face to face, waiting for his companions to speak.
