Chapter Twenty Five: TruthThe path they had picked through the scrub had been so far surprisingly uneventful. Taking advantage of a gorse covered outcrop, Jacob observed closely the activity at the base of the bridge. Whoever had started the fire on the other side of the base had, in some respects, done them a huge favour and in some respects had made things a whole lot more complex. Facing in to the prevailing wind, the smoke was almost choking him as it billowed out in huge charcoal clouds turning the world murky. In the dismal haze, he could see Frisian troops racing backwards and forwards, responding to the alarm bell. The faint sound of an explosion followed by another bell had only added to the panic.
