Ella stood outside the place she called home for the past ten years. She just hadn’t been here for a month, yet the place already felt foreign to her. Now that she thought about it, it might have had something to do with the fact that she didn’t really feel welcome during her stay there. Not that she was mistreated ever--no, she never felt that.  Her aunt and uncle weren’t cruel to her. Never was she beaten or abused, and for that, she realized now, she was thankful.
