ISLA
If someone had told me that life could be worse than what it had been at home, I probably would’ve punched them in the face, yet, here I was fighting hand to hand with a man almost twice my size and in front of a man I had signed a year of my life in exchange for longer life.
“Keep up, little wolf” he snagged.
I wiped the blood trickling down my nostrils and went for him again, this time, I swept his feet and towered over him, hitting the side of his neck with my hand and then he overturned me, pinning me to the ground.
“Let go!” I yelled.
“You’re cute when you squirm” he whispered and then the bell rang. Almost immediately, he let go of me and stood firm while I joined him by his side.
“Good form Mr Byers but not good enough” Kael said, his voice bringing memories to that darn cottage I rested in that night.
“And you, miss Belmont” I bowed my head. He placed his finger on my chin, lifting my face to meet his eyes “Great movement, you’re quick on your feet but sloppy at best” he took his finger off my chin.
“Thank you sir!” We both answered in unison, I clutched onto my wrist harder to keep myself from coughing up blood.
“You did great back there” Harriet smiled whilst he stood in front of the bathroom mirrors.
“You think?” I asked, pouring water onto my face “I think I was sloppy”
“Sloppy? Girl, you hit Zane Byers, you landed two clear shots” she indicated with her fingers in the air “Two hits on him, that’s a feat”
“Maybe he let me hit him” I countered, washing off the bloody bruise on my knuckles, the ones I had gotten from grazing his skin sharply.
“Of course he let you hit him” Belle emerged, her favorite lipgloss in her hands “How can you, someone who isn’t even with alpha blood even graze him?” She mocked.
“Maybe she used a trick, I heard beta bloodlines are only good for certain things like being foot soldiers and clowns” another drawled.
Typical Belle, always having friends who would taunt me in whatever way that she can.
“You’re quite pathetic, if you think he likes you” Belle said, an angry line around her forehead bulged.
Is this jealousy I perceive?
“You tell her Belle! Or maybe she used sorcery” her spazzy friend chipped in “He probably didn’t want her filthy blood on his hands” she added.
“I mean, who would?” Belle smirked.
“But I got his blood on mine” I said, watching her smile fade “Come on, we’re late for history” I signaled Harriet who followed right behind me.
“Just wait till we get home” Belle drawled behind me, her tone menacing.
“How do you survive with that thing for a sister?” Harriet asked “Wait..is she the reason..?”
My chest heaved and I rolled my eyes “I don’t want to talk about it” I intercepted her, making my way towards the class.
I still hadn’t wrapped my head around the fact that professor Kael was the man I had signed those documents for, now, I have to review those pieces of paper.
Just as we made our way towards the class, he came into view, his back against the wall, his uniform looked almost different from the others, his dark red hair drawing more attention to him, how did professors just overlook such things, yet hate on me for classy chains on my wrist and neck.
“There she is” he announced and I rolled my eyes. What more torture does he have in store does this school have for me?
“I want to speak with you” he said calmly like we were buddies, it gave me the ick.
“We’ve got nothing to talk about, please, we’re late for class” I walked past him without sparing him my attention “Come on” but Harriet held onto my arm, her eyes flickering with some sort of fear and I felt her hand tug at the sleeve of my shirt.
“You can leave Stilinski” Zane addressed her and almost immediately she took her fingers away from my uniform moved from behind me with a sign to call her later but I didn’t even have a phone and worse, this man was staring at me with such eyes it was difficult to hold his gaze but not impossible.
“Please be quick” I requested nonchalantly, folding my arms as Belle and her minions came from the side.
“Oh my, Zane..” she rushed towards him, putting her arm around his. If there’s anything Belle is great at, it’s being an amazing distraction.
I walked past him and went for my history class without turning back.
The class was already packed and I scurried over to find no seat in sight, I noticed that Harriet didn’t even save a place for me but then someone waved towards me, signaling me to move that way.
When I followed his hands, I saw the empty seat next to him but his eyes narrowed down to me and I recognized his face, it was the same black haired guy who sparred with Harriet.
“Please sit, before Miss Myron sees you standing” he whispered and he was right. I had heard rumors about her and her demanding behavior.
Almost immediately, I pulled a chair and sat right beside him.
“Isla Belmont” he whispered.
“Ho..how did you know my name?” I asked, trying to concentrate on the lesson.
“You sparred with Zane and bruised him, that’s enough to get you noticed around here, also, I helped you get home yesterday but you didn’t catch my name ” a faint smile came across his lips “I’m Ronan” he stretched forth his hand for a shake.
“Focus Mr Byers!” Miss Myron yelled.
“Yes ma’am” he answered with a playful shrug and he turned to me “Your secret’s safe with me” he whispered.
How does he know my secret? And Byers, as in Zane’s brother? And wait…he took me home?
